Job Summary:The School of Social Work and Human Services invites applications for two Assistant Professors of Social Work and Human Services. The successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in social work and human services at undergraduate and graduate levels of education.The School seeks applicants who share our passion for, and commitment to, excellence in teaching in a student-centered environment; who successfully integrate their scholarship into their teaching; and who are experienced in the delivery of high-quality social work service in communities of practice, in particular: (1) acute, community, or population-based healthcare; (2) family and child welfare, including delegated agencies; (3) mental health; and (4) substance use.Successful candidates must be able to incorporate or reflect Indigenous perspectives or ways of teaching and learning into their curriculum. The School particularly encourages applications from Indigenous and racialized scholars.Successful candidates are able to work collaboratively in team environments and effectively with community-based practicum settings, other disciplines, and external bodies. They will be expected to participate in the School’s activities, service, events, and initiatives. They may be expected to contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning and contribute to academic leadership. A commitment social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are expected, as well as an ongoing program of professional development.Experience in technology-supported teaching (e.g., hybrid and on-line) is required. Experience with experiential learning, including internships and study abroad, is desirable.Successful applicants will have a record of research or scholarly activity commensurate with their experience; the potential to establish a successful research program; and an ability to incorporate research into applied learning opportunities for students.The School offers an MSW, a BSW (Generalist and Child Welfare Option), a Social Service Worker diploma (Generalist and Indigenous Focus), and a School and Community Support Worker certificate. The School has developed collaborative relationships with the Stó: lo peoples; all diploma and BSW students are required to take courses in Indigenous practice. The MSW and BSW programs are accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.The School’s programs prepare students for social work and human services practice reflecting principles of social justice, equality, and respect for diversity. The School’s programs address the structural barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential. With a commitment to lifelong learning and a critical analysis of oppression, graduates will have the knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary to work collaboratively with individuals, families, groups, and communities in diverse and cross-cultural environments. The School’s programs contribute to social work knowledge through partnerships and collaborative research with professional and local communities.Qualifications:The successful candidates must have an MSW and a PhD (or ABD) in Social Work or a related discipline from an accredited institution and five years of social work practice. Two years of successful teaching at a post-secondary level are desirable. Successful candidates must be registered or eligible for registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
