Job Description

We are currently seeking an Environmental Specialist / Project Coordinator to join our Natural Sciences Group. This role will primarily focus on providing technical and administrative support to our Source Water Protection team providing Risk Management services, among others.Please note: This vacancy is open for any of our Ontario office locations. Remote work opportunities may be available for applicants located in the counties of Brant or Norfolk, Ontario.Location: Peterborough, Barrie, Oshawa, Kingston, or Remote, Ontario

  • Provide project support and technical expertise to Source Water Protection projects, ideally with an emphasis on policy and implementation.
  • Perform the duties of Risk Management Official and/or Risk Management Inspector, including maintaining provincial training requirements.
  • Draft letters, factsheets, notices, and Risk Management Plans.
  • Oversee Source Water Protection Annual Reporting requirements
  • Draft Source Water Protection Policies as required
  • Conduct reviews of development applications using on-line mapping programs and databases. Request and coordinate technical support to complete development application reviews
  • Prepare and coordinate the implementation of work plans to meet Source Water Protection contract needs and Risk Management requirements.
  • Complete site visits and inspections and supporting documentation such as project field reports and field notes.
  • Assist with report writing and ensure work is completed with accuracy and precision.
  • Collaborate with other Natural Sciences Group and Water and Wastewater Group staff.
  • Commit to health and safety procedures and practices.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
  • Travel and shiftwork may be required in all seasons and weather conditions.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in a related field: Environmental Science, Water Resources, etc.
  • 5-7 years of Source Water Protection experience.
  • Experience working with private landowners and public sector employees on the implementation of Source Protection Plans under the Clean Water Act, 2006.
  • Understanding of SWP legislation, policies, technical rules, and drinking water threats and circumstances
  • Provincial Risk Management Official/Inspector training and/or Property Entry training are considered key assets.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills.
  • Superior technical skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with mapping and data management in ArcGIS considered an asset.
  • Experience working with the agricultural sector considered an asset.
  • Experience using SPIA
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills with fluency (reading, writing, and oral) in English.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
