Job Description

The V.G. Group of Companies is looking for an Operational Controller/Finance Manager in Simcoe, Ontario.The ideal individual will oversee the finance, accounting, and selected administrative operations of the company, with direct oversight and responsibility for three people, together with ensuring all financial activities are compliant with small business accounting standards, and all reporting is conducted commensurate with laws and regulations relating to a private Canadian company.ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting, Compliance & Reporting

  • Thorough understanding of financial reporting, and general ledger/ chart of accounts structure, including alignment and support to corporate strategic plans and initiatives
  • Maintaining practices, procedures, internal controls, and systems, to ensure accounting principles are adhered to in order to generate accurate and timely monthly and annual individual & group consolidated financial statements
  • Oversight, maintenance, and updating of weekly management operational financial reports
  • Selected daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation & internal reporting activities
  • Ensure regulatory & other compliance requirements, including financing, payroll, T4s, HST, EHT, WSIB, income tax, and government funding programs
  • Assessing corporate risk management & developing containment programs
  • Fiscal year-end procedures, including year-end package, coordination with external accountants and other advisors
Strategy and Planning
  • Financial reporting, and management information for operating and strategic purposes
  • Preparation of operating budgets, and financial & cash flow forecasting, reflecting the impact of various corporate operational initiatives, and ownership priorities
  • Contribution to the development, monitoring, and execution of Business Plans, with a focus on financial & other performance reporting, and supporting strategic and other initiatives
Reporting and Analysis
  • Managing, supervising & mentoring accounting department staff, and other colleagues, including supporting professional and career development
  • Working with the Senior Management Team & General Manager of Operations, while providing supporting reporting, budgets & forecasting activities, and KPI metrics
  • Establish systems and metrics to measure progress towards achievement of outcomes
  • Provides departments with reports to enable management of their goals and objectives
  • Able to support diverse groups and individuals effectively
Project Management
  • Prioritizing & allocating activities in order to meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Project Management activities, including analysis, monitoring, reporting, pre & post budgets analysis, and overall strong organizational skills
Continuous Improvement
  • Ensures service delivery excellence through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring, and risk management
  • Able to assist in documenting workflows, streamlining and standardizing processes & procedures, technology enabling activities, including repurposing and leveraging of data for analysis & reporting purposes
Other
  • General administrative duties, including selected human resources, IT, employee onboarding, employee benefits, physical & digital filing of confidential employee records
  • Coordinate activities with external IT and other external technology providers
  • Manage all licensing and insurance requirements (auto, business, livestock, etc)
  • Government funding applications & tracking
  • Intermittent assistance with other administrative (i.e. order entry, purchasing) functions, if circumstances dictate

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Previous controller/finance manager experience, having five to ten years of financial and management experience, with over day-to-day operations of companies commensurate in size and complexity, preferably in an entrepreneurial setting
  • Five plus years of experience in a manufacturing, wholesale & retail accounting environment is preferred
  • University/College undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting or Finance, plus a CPA (or equivalent experience) preferred
  • Technical proficiency with accounting procedures, policies & standards, in addition to associated general administrative & IT activities
  • Proficient with QuickBooks & QuickBooks Online accounting software, and general IT knowledge & skills (e.g., MS Office, Google Suites, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • In depth understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their supply chain functionality is desirable
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with leaders at all levels, including management, administrative & operating (e.g., production, logistical, retail) staff, and suppliers, customers, & other external service providers

Compensation ArrangementsSalary and other compensation elements commensurate with ability and experience
  • Salary Range: $70,000 - $110,000
  • Annual vacation entitlement 3 weeks
