Job Description

SNOW SCHOOL APPRENTICE (GE)Volunteer, Seasonal (Approximately October to March)Glen Eden is a Ski and Snowboard Centre in Milton that is operated by Conservation Halton. Situated on the Niagara Escarpment in Milton, it is the premier skiing and boarding destination in the GTA.The Snow School is seeking Apprentices for the 2021 – 2022 ski season. As a Snow School Apprentice, you will play a key role in supporting instructors to provide a safe and fun learning environment for students of all abilities.If you are passionate about the sport of skiing or snowboarding and are looking to get experience towards becoming an instructor, then this is a great opportunity for you!Your OpportunityThe primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Assisting mentor instructor with lesson delivery at the Ski/Snowboard School
  • Providing support to and ensuring, safety, well-being and personal development of students of all ages/ability levels
  • Attending all required training sessions both on and off hill
  • Set up and tear down of lesson area locations
  • Ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and operational throughout the season
  • Working in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals such as Covid-19 PPE protocols.
  • Performing other duties as required to contribute to the team effort and achieve the objectives of the department and Conservation Halton.
Your Qualifications
  • Minimum 14 years of age by December 1, 2021
  • Advanced level skier or snowboarder
  • Completion of Snow School Volunteer program is recommended
  • Must be able to commit to working alongside their assigned mentor for a minimum of one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) and 1 weeknight (Monday-Friday) of the 8-week program and one camp of your choosing (Winter Break 1, Winter Break 2, March Break)
  • CASI or CSIA certification is helpful but not mandatory
  • Previous employment or volunteer experience in a position working with or providing education / supervision to children an asset
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills to work with the Public
  • Experience teaching skiing or snowboarding with the Glen Eden Snow School or another reputable snow school is an asset
  • Applicants selected for hire who are over the age of 17 will be required to submit a valid Vulnerable Sector Check. It is recommended that anyone wishing to apply commence sourcing this in advance
  • Ability to travel to a site not serviced by public transportation
