The Ontario Government Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Service (OGPMSS) is seeking a Driver to provide delivery services of pharmaceuticals, biologicals and medical supplies to hospitals, doctors offices, health units, long-term care facilities, mental health institutions, correctional services locations and other facilities within Metropolitan Toronto.OGPMSSThe OGPMSS is designated as a mandatory central common service that supports the planning and implementation of programs including managing the acquisition and distribution of inventory (i.e. vaccines, drugs, and medical supplies) related to those programs to: achieve economies of scale through a more effective and efficient use of limited resources; support program personnel with activities related to inventory management; support Ontario government ministries, OPS agencies and facilities meet the needs of their individual programs. Broader Public Sector (BPS) organizations may become clients through a Memorandum of Understanding and take advantage of the services provided. OGPMSS offers an integrated logistic service through product standardization, volume purchasing, program support, centralized customer service, centralized ordering, warehousing and distribution and consolidated invoicing.The MinistryMinistry of Health is responsible for administering the health care system and providing services to the Ontario public through such programs as health insurance, drug benefits, assistive devices, care for the mentally ill, long-term care, home care services, community and public health, health promotion and disease prevention. • Configure loads to align with delivery schedule and ensure products are safe and secure
• Adjust schedules for unexpected delays and notify customers of revised delivery dates/times
• Monitor equipment readings throughout the day and investigate the cause of unusual temperature variations
• Perform routine vehicle maintenance
• Complete load sheet and drivers daily log book in compliance with Ministry of Transportation regulations
• Log deliveries and ensure shipping manifests are signed and dated by clients

How do I qualifyMandatory

• You must have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.
• You possess a valid forklift or reach lift truck certificate.

Technical KnowledgeYou have:

• Demonstrated knowledge of transport requirements of special loads (e g. pharmaceuticals, biologicals and surgical supplies) to ensure care and safety during transport, loading and unloading
• Knowledge of operations, preventative maintenance and routine servicing to operate and maintain cargo vans during varying weather and road conditions
• Ability to acquire knowledge of cold chain monitoring equipment
• Demonstrated knowledge of roads and highways within Metropolitan Toronto and alternative routes in order to make adjustments and meet delivery schedules

Reasoning and Problem-Solving SkillsYou can:

• Determine safest and most efficient methods of transporting materials based on road conditions and type of items being transported
• Identify and resolve vehicle maintenance issues
• Maintain cold chain equipment throughout the route and in adverse conditions

Communication SkillsYou can:

• Provide courteous services to customers when delivering and picking up goods
• Explain situations to Assistant Manager or Manager, discuss options and follow instructions
• Complete load sheets, fuel records, vehicle driver logs and expense forms

Additional InformationYou have the ability to:

• Lift individual boxes in excess of 25 kilograms and must be in good physical condition
• Operate trucks, forklifts, pump trucks and other equipment safely, according to Ministry requirements
• Use hand tools normally used in routine vehicle maintenance
