The Human Resources Services team consists of functional units such as HR Operations (Payroll and Data Management, HR Client Services, HR Systems Strategy, Reporting and Analytics), Talent, Equity & Development, Employee & Labour Relations, Total Compensation, and Health, Safety & Risk Management, who enable the delivery of comprehensive Human Resources programs and services in collaboration with leaders, HR area offices and HR practitioners across our community.About Athletics & Recreation (A&R)Athletics and Recreation provides programmes, services, and facilities to McMaster University and the broader Hamilton community to foster the development of human potential and wellness in all of us. Our department is committed to leading and growing with our community members over time in order to create a vibrant and inclusive community.About the PositionReporting to the HR Strategic Partner, Housing & Conference Services, the HR Strategic Partner provides focused and embedded HR leadership including contribution to A&R’s strategic plan, while ensuring comprehensive operational HR service delivery enhancements as well as design and implementation of new HR, Talent, and EDI strategies within the assigned portfolio. This position will work collaboratively with the HR Centres of Expertise and A&R leaders and administrators to enable HR plans and priorities and to promote an inclusive, positive, and productive workplace culture. The successful incumbent will develop and proactively manage people plans to include HR, Talent, and EDI priorities for optimal alignment of staff resources in alignment with future of work recommendations, inclusive excellence, and evolving portfolio needs. Additionally, the successful incumbent will provide support as needed to the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) department.As part of the McMaster HR Community of Practice, in addition to designing and delivering a comprehensive people strategy, the HRSP will also ensure alignment and effective execution of other critical portfolio requirements including complex recruitment activities involving international researchers and staff and targeted growth strategies, organizational design and role planning, customized onboarding, training and development activities, HR program management, equitable compensation reviews, and navigating the related employee and labour relations features associated with a global and diverse workforce.Core Areas of AccountabilityStrategic Planning and Analytics

  • Contribute to overall A&R strategic planning activities
  • Identify opportunities for key HR operational enhancements and facilitate required change
  • Develop new HR, Talent and EDI strategies, document people plans which complement priority objectives and inclusive excellence, with detailed short term and long-term goals.
Talent Acquisition and Development
  • Develop, implement, and monitor operational hiring and onboarding process improvements and new hiring strategies.
  • Ensure a talent framework is in place to effectively assess needs within the portfolio.
  • Conduct regular analyses of portfolio talent acquisition and development requirements.
Consultation and Coaching
  • Provide consulting guidance for operational and strategic human resources matters to identify potential solutions which drive overall culture, engagement, and productivity.
  • Act as leadership coach for A&R; work with COEs and external coaches as needed to enable additional coaching in areas of performance management, employee relations, engagement, and career development.
Compensation and Total Rewards
  • Facilitate any strategic compensation related activities for the portfolio working in partnership with Total Rewards
  • Partner with HR Operations team and other Administrators in A&R to ensure annual processes are being executed appropriately and to manage any required escalated reviews and issue resolution
Change Management and Communications
  • Leverage HR project management resources to ensure alignment with priorities and governance.
  • Ensure change management and communication plans are in place and are executed effectively for any new HR initiatives and strategic deliverables.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of required metrics/reports to support decision making and demonstrate impacts.
HR Leadership
  • Participate in HR meetings, Community of Practice forums and other HR development activities to continue growth as an HR professional and develop required networks.
  • Collaborate with other HR Partners, HRSPs and Sr. HRSPs and the Organizational Development (OD) team to identify common issues and enhance organizational design, recruitment, development, or training needs that could be enhanced or developed at the organizational level.
Are you the right candidateThis role requires a Human Resources Professional with a minimum of 5-7 years of HR Business Partner/HR Manager experience, preferably in a large, unionized environment. The successful candidate will possess functional knowledge and broad experience in all areas of human resources policies, practices, processes, and legislation. Additionally, the successful incumbent will have a proven track record of championing and influencing process enhancements and demonstrated agility in service delivery of programs, recognized for building & maintaining impactful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Other qualifications
  • University degree preferably in Commerce, Psychology, or related field with a focus in Human Resources/Industrial Relations; an understanding of Global Health is preferred
  • CHRP; CHRL designation strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and address employee and policy issues and exercise sound and experienced judgment in providing advice, guidance, and innovative solutions
