Job Description

Opening StatementMusquodoboit Valley Home for Special Care (commonly known as Braeside) is a 29 bed Long Term Care facility providing Level 1 and 2 holistic care. Our facility is located approximately one hour outside of Halifax in the village of Middle Musquodoboit, NS. Braeside is physically attached to Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital. We provide resident centered care which maintains dignity and maximizes independence.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the LTC Aide assists the health care team in providing indirect resident care within their scope. The LTC Aide contributes to the effective operation of the home by supporting the direct care staff with various duties including but not limited to, reception/clerical duties, ensuring supplies are stocked, keeping linen supplies organized etc. The LTC Aide is able to work independently, sometimes without direct supervision. They are motivated and organized. The LTC Aide follows Braeside policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of maturity and discretion in handling confidential matters. The LTC Aide will have an understanding of the basic principles of infection control to assist in providing a safe environment for residents and staff. This position may require some evening, night, weekend and holiday work depending on the facility requirements.Duties will include:

  • To assist in providing service to residents in accordance with their individual care plans.
  • Assisting residents with meals and between meal refreshments.
  • Assisting residents to blood work, xrays and/or medical appointments
  • Put away resident’s clean laundry and stores items in utility rooms
  • Cleaning of resident care equipment
  • Communication of any resident concerns or changes in condition to CCAs and/or Charge Nurse.
  • Assists with resident Lifts and/or transfers only as the second person – after completion of our Lifts and Transfer Program.
  • Assists residents to and from activities.
  • Assist in caring for facility gardens, plants, and pets.
  • Assist in seasonal displays, special events and decorating.
  • Attends and actively participates in Staff Meetings and education as required.
  • Cooperates with members of other departments in providing quality care for the residents. The LTC Aide will not provide direct personal care.
  • Maintains a good relationship with resident’s family members/volunteers/staff.
  • May be asked to perform additional duties from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Successful Completion of NS Grade XII or equivalent
  • Food Hygiene (Handling) Course – Or willing to obtain
  • NVCI – Or willing to obtain
  • WHIMIS – Or willing to obtain
  • Experience working with adults, especially individuals with dementia and other cognitive impairments and/or physical disabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Criminal Records Check (Within the last 3 months)
  • Venerable Sector Check (Within the last 3 months)
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Internet explorer an asset.
  • Previous work in a health care facility an asset.
  • Class 4 Nova Scotia Driver’s License is an asset.
