An international destination with easy access to its binational U.S. neighbour New York State, Niagara attracts over 14 million visitors annually, as well as a steady stream of new residents and businesses.Please note that the Niagara Region requires that all newly hired employees are to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of being hired and provide proof of full vaccination, or provide proof of a bona fide medical or Human Rights Code exemption on a form issued from and approved by Niagara Region.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Manager, Dental Program, deliver oral health programming & services as required by the Ontario Public Health Standards, associated oral health protocols and the Health Protection and Promotion Act. The Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) contributes to the provision of community-, clinic-, & school-based oral health screening, assessment, and preventive treatment & instruction. This includes health promotion, disease prevention, and program evaluation and planning, in order to promote optimal oral health for all Niagara children and youth from birth to 17 years of age. The CDA is also responsible for the efficient operation of the dental clinic as well as maintaining infection prevention and control standards. Contributes to raising Niagara’s awareness and knowledge of the importance of oral health as it relates to overall health.EDUCATION

  • Successful completion of a certificate in dental assisting from an accredited college
  • Current membership in good standing with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association (ODAA)
  • Possess a CDA Level II certificate
KNOWLEDGE
  • Minimum of the equivalent of three full-time years’ experience as a certified dental assistant required
  • Experience with children would be an asset
SKILLS
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted specified license for the class of the vehicle operated
  • Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons
  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate
  • Must be certified in C.P.R.
  • An annual influenza vaccine is recommended
If assigned to Mobile Dental Clinic:
  • Must be comfortable driving a 33 foot “Class A” Winnebago and able to travel throughout the Niagara region to various locations
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) specified “G” license for the class of the vehicle operated
