An international destination with easy access to its binational U.S. neighbour New York State, Niagara attracts over 14 million visitors annually, as well as a steady stream of new residents and businesses.Please note that the Niagara Region requires that all newly hired employees are to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of being hired and provide proof of full vaccination, or provide proof of a bona fide medical or Human Rights Code exemption on a form issued from and approved by Niagara Region.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYNiagara Region has a Temporary, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Student/Intern position for up-to 35 hours per week available within the Corporate Strategy and Innovation Division.This position will assist with creating an Action Plan for the Region joining the Collation of Inclusive Municipalities focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The Action Plan is aimed at improving practices to promote social inclusion, establish policies to eradicate all forms of racism and discrimination, and to promote human rights and diversity within the Niagara Region. Areas of responsibilities will include assisting with conducting literature reviews and environmental scans; collecting quantitative and qualitative data from various sources within the Niagara Region; and assisting with analyzing the data and writing reports.We appreciate receipt of all applications; however, only those candidates selected for an interview will be acknowledged.Please provide an email address you regularly check as part of your online application.EDUCATION

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalency (ex. GED), plus
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and returning to school in September, preferably in a Master’s program in one of the following related academic fields: Community Health, Social Sciences, Humanities or a related field of study.
KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods
SKILLS
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work as well as in a team, as well as self-directed and/or with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivated, confident and responsible
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skill
  • Ability to handle confidential data, information and sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated project management and time management skills
  • Critical appraisal skills
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be available to work full-time work from starting January 10, 2022
  • Must provide proof of successful completion of high school
  • Must provide proof of enrollment in a related post-secondary program or proof that you have graduated within within the last 18 months from a post secondary program in a related field of study
