DivisionHousing / Hostels / HomelessnessImportant Notices & AmendmentsPlease note that this is a 24/7 operation so requires people to be willing and able to work day/evening/nights including weekends and the position has 12 hour shift rotations.Temporary DurationApproximate Duration: 2 to 6 months.This is a casual 0 hour position, where you can work up to 35 hours per week.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYThe Shelter Clinical Support Worker is responsible for supporting individuals that are chronically homeless who have been directed by a medical professional to self isolate or who have tested positive for COVID-19. This work includes supporting individuals from a trauma informed approach, ensuring hospitality, dignity, and respect during isolation periods. The worker will work in partnership with staff from the homelessness sector to ensure individuals are being supported in self isolation in a safe and appropriate environment, and to also provide emergency medical client assessments and evaluations.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATIONCommunity College Diploma or a University Degree in Social Services or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Paramedic Program Diploma/Certificate an assetCurrent certification in CPR (Basic Rescuer level).KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCEOver six months of experience working with the public in a customer service environment, with the vulnerable population or in a clinical settingKnowledge and utilization of pharmaceutical products and medical supplies, instruments and equipment of an interactive and multi-faceted nature.Knowledge of the disaster plans for the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and other pertinent agencies such as the fire department and police department sufficient to effectively manage a major casualty situation until relieved by more qualified personnel.SKILLSWritten and verbal communication skills sufficient to perform documentation and related administration duties, as well as to relate to patients, families and other health care professionals in a calm and professional manner.Demonstrated skills in the areas of teamwork, problem solving and leadership sufficient to deal with crisis situationsBasic computer skills.SPECIAL CONDITIONSWork is performed independently within established work procedures, department procedures and safety procedures, as well as within regional policies and procedures, Base Hospital protocols, Ministry of Health Basic Life Support Standards, the Ambulance Act, the Radio Act and the Mental Health Act.In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate including a vulnerable sector search.Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons.Ability to work flexible hours including - days, evenings, nights and weekendsClosing StatementUncover the wonder of the Niagara Region and join a team dedicated to meeting tomorrow’s challenges TODAY!Let us know why you would be an excellent team member by submitting your online application.We thank all candidates for their interest however, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
