The Supervisor supports the team in accordance with departmental and legal mandates, and as outlined in the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA) R.S.O. 1990.EducationBachelor’s degree in Nursing (BScN) or a Registered Nurse diploma with a Bachelor’s degree in a health related discipline requiredMaster’s degree in the Health Sciences or related field is preferredKnowledgeMinimum of 3 years’ experience working in a clinic or health care settingMinimum of 3 years’ experience working in the field of public healthKnowledge of health promotion, disease prevention, chronic diseases, infectious diseases, infection prevention and control and medical terminology5 years’ experience in public health program is preferred.Previous supervisory experience is preferred.Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario is requiredResponsibilitiesSupervises staff, coordinating and planning work, providing work direction, assigning tasks and projects, determining methods and procedures to be used, monitoring quality of work, resolving problems and ensuring assigned results are achieved. This includes workplace inspections, monitoring, accident reporting and investigations, and ensuring any observed hazards or lapses in the functioning of OH&S processes, and other OH&S concerns are responded to promptlyEnsures all individuals under supervision have been informed of hazards and instructed on the necessary risk control and emergency response measuresSupports the Manager with the development, maintenance and evaluation of all program services: (30% of time)Perform audits to ensures client records or databases are accurate, complete and appropriate confidentiality is maintainedResponsible to ensure records are maintained, reports and statistics for program operations are accurate and complete.Supports the evaluation of program operationsAssigns and monitors workload management and provides regular reports to the ManagerAssists with the preparation of annual reporting, and business plans to support the programCompletes and interprets statistics/service data for reports required by the Manager, Division Director and Medical Officer of Health/Associate Medical Officer of Health for service evaluationProvides information to the public in response to public concerns or complaints including through writing and presenting reports as requiredEnsures effective processes, policies and practices are in place to meet ministerial legislation and regulatory standards and requirements, monitoring compliance and addressing issues to minimize risk (20% of time)Helps to develop and maintain program policies, procedures and medical directives as neededEnsures adherence to performance standards, medical directives and collaboration between programs and divisions to ensure program services are appropriately resourcedEnsures staff awareness of and adherence to internal processes, policies and practices, corporate and, departmental policies aligned with legislation, guidance documents and best practices.Complies with the regulations of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, along with other relevant legislation, regulations and mandatory standardsPlan, implement, monitor, and evaluate program operationsAssists with the preparation of the annual report and business plansCreates, monitors and ensures staff adherence to internal processes, policies and practices aligned with legislation, guidance documents and best practiceComplies with all regulations under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Identifies opportunities to improve program services and operations. (10% of time)Reviews, researches and analyzes community needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating information on services, including best practices, goals, objectives, standards, priorities and curricula, making recommendations for improvements and changesLiaises with other Public Health units to continually strategize program improvements and streamline processesRegularly consults with the Director, Manager and other staff to plan and implement program mandates and initiativesImplements changes to program services as required and monitors and tracks resultsMonitors trends within the community and changes in legislation, departmental policies and programsEnsures effective processes, policies and practices are in place to meet ministerial legislation and to minimize risk to clients in consultation with the other internal resources across the department when infection prevention and control lapses are identified (5% of time)Reviews data, provides content expertise, detects causes and takes actionProvides leadership and direction in all program operations.Participates in various departmental, regional, community and provincial committees to provide an integrated and seamless public health response and to ensure ministry compliance. (5% of time)Attends and contributes to Divisional Management team meetingsPrepares and communicates reports to internal and external partners on behalf of the division as requiredSupports liaison activities and facilitates communication with public health leadershipReports and liaises with Public Health Ontario (PHO), attends provincial webinars, teleconferences and meetings to ensure compliance with legislationCollaborates with regulatory colleges, and other community stakeholdersSpecial RequirementsParticipates in on standby rotation for all reportable diseases to the Medical Officer of HealthMay be required to support emergency operations under the incident management structure, at the direction of the Emergency Operations Centre DirectorMust possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted specified license for the class of the vehicle operatedMust maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasonsAnnual influenza vaccination – preferredResponds to emergency health hazards as defined by the Medical Officer of HealthRegional staff strive to enable the strategic priorities of council and the organization through the completion of their work.
