We are looking for people ready to share, build, and grow with our company.The Compensation & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for the execution of Baffinland’s Compensation & Benefits program. In addition, the successful candidate will be a key contributor to the corporate HR team contributions, projects, and deliverables. Specifically, this role will be required to identify opportunities to improve and harmonize the current compensation & benefits practices to deliver best in class processes and service throughout the company.The Compensation & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for Baffinland’s compensation and benefits programs, in addition to performance management and providing leadership with total rewards. In addition, utilizing project management skills to lead the Total Rewards team and other compensation, operational and analytical duties. This role is based at our Oakville, Ontario office.Main Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the compensation & Benefits programs, working closely with the HR team to ensure the correct salary structures, benefits and incentives are utilized and implemented effectively.
  • Monitors the compensation program to ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards. Keeps abreast of trends in compensation practice.
  • Regularly analyzes compensation data; proactively comes forward to the HR Teams with recommendations.
  • Responsible for handling all aspects of the Companys Years of Service program.
  • Provides analytical and consultative support to the HR Teams on any projects or ad hoc needs as required.
  • Oversees implementation of effective performance management system across the company
  • Fully knowledgeable on all areas related to compensation and benefits and can serve as a resource to employees and management throughout the company.
  • Takes a lead role on various benchmarking projects including but not limited to job evaluation, salary, and benefits.
  • Effectively utilize project management skills to lead projects and provide recommendations and reports to Human Resources team and senior leadership as required.
  • Contributes to improving company onboarding procedures specifically in the areas of compensation and benefits.
  • Manages full payroll cycle ensuring effective data controls are in place and executed, communicates with 3rd party payroll providers, and ensures efficient and smooth payroll processes.
  • Effectively utilizes internal systems to produce reports and data as required
Main Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a Compensation & Benefits role, preferably within a Corporate Human Resources function
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in related discipline
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation completed, or in progress would be an asset
  • Certification as a Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)
  • Previous exposure to national compensation is strongly preferred, strength in Canadian compensation essential
  • Experience working with payroll is required
  • Ability to work in a corporate HR team environment with a high sense of urgency and flexibility
  • Progressive and proven experience in compensation & Benefits including knowledge of job evaluation, pay structures, variable pay design, pay equity legislation, annual merit budgeting, and the use of competitive pay analysis
  • Excellent research skills
  • Superior Excel including developing and use of compensation models
  • Strong PowerPoint skills, and ability to make effective presentations
  • Excellent relationship management, organizational and influencing skills. Proven ability to keep multiple projects progressing and on track for a timely delivery
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex reports and data sets
  • Ability to work on an independent basis is critical
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment and deal with ambiguity
