About the RoleWe are looking for a dynamic individual with exceptional customer service and technical skills. Working in a non-routine and complex environment, the Lead Powerline Technician is accountable for delegating work assignments and overseeing Powerline Technicians performing construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground hydro distribution systems on site.Duties include:
  • Oversee and manage distribution operations crews to ensure projects are completed flawlessly, efficiently, and safely and on time
  • Responsible for the proper care and use of company vehicles and equipment including testing of safety instruments
  • Troubleshoot and analyze system problems, including circumstances that require regular standby duty and emergency callouts
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate daily tasks to ensure the efficient completion of work orders
  • Maintain accurate daily records and logs
  • Enter data for vaults into Great Plains
  • Ensure all necessary materials have been booked out and loaded for work assigned
  • Effectively collaborate, communicate, and co-ordinate with all Oakville Hydro employees, other companies, and contractors
  • Coach Powerline Technicians and Apprentices
  • Lead the training of Apprentice Powerline Technicians
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Distribution Operations
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician
  • Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA) Trades Training Program for Powerline Technician, or equivalent is required
  • Valid M.E.A. Powerline Technician Certificate or equivalent
  • Hoisting Engineer Mobile 2 certificate
  • Valid Class ‘AZ’ Drivers Licence (or valid DZ and must obtain AZ within 5 months) with an excellent driving record
  • Standard First Aid including CPR/Heart massage
  • Required to obtain Red Seal designation within 12 months of obtaining the position
  • Well versed in all aspects of underground and overhead distribution system work up to and including 27.6/16kV
  • Fully conversant with EUSA Rule Book and Utility Work Protection Code
  • Demonstrated proficient computer skills including working in a Windows environment, Great Plains, and other associated software applications
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills an asset with the ability to organize and oversee large crews
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground hydro systems and safety procedures
  • Excellent safety and attendance record and demonstrated strong safety awareness
  • Physical ability to properly operate all hydro utility vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Ability to work all shifts including weekends, as required
