We are hiring an experienced Risk and Controls Auditor.Day to dayThe candidate will report to the Director, Controls and Audit and play a crucial role in supporting Canada’s Risk Control Framework (RCF).

  • Perform independent testing to assess the design and operating effectiveness of local financial, operational, risk, and compliance controls performed by the first line of defense
  • Discuss test results with control owners and provide practical recommendations to remediate identified gaps
  • Manage findings related to assigned controls. This includes ensuring finding owners document action plans with clear deadlines, obtaining progress updates, and verifying that finding closures are acceptable.
  • Perform walkthroughs with the first line of defense to identify and document new controls and provide knowledgeable recommendations to improve existing controls
  • Train and assist the first line of defense to ensure that reports used during control execution are complete and accurate, and that there is proper segregation of duties
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide effective challenge of the annual risk assessments performed by the first line of defense
  • Train local membership to strengthen knowledge and awareness of changes to corporate policies and methodologies relating to risks and controls
  • Support internal and external audit relationship management by supporting documentation requests and participating in discussions.
  • Assists the Director with other ad hoc items including Business Continuity Management and Operational Risk Incident management

  • Background and experience in Risk, Operations, Finance and/or Compliance
  • 3 years’ experience in public accounting or 5 years’ experience in an Internal Audit/ controls testing role
  • Knowledge and experience in identifying and testing controls
  • Analytical and quickly able to get to the root cause of an issue
  • Ability to organize and plan all required activities to meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to collaborate and build effective working relationships with control owners
  • Ability to work from home remotely/independently and in a virtual team environment
Desired Skills:
  • Professional accounting or audit designation (e.g.: CPA, CIA etc.)
  • Experience in a banking or financial services firm
  • Previous experience in equipment leasing and vendor finance or banking an advantage
  • Experience using Archer, or similar Risk Management Tool
