About the roleJoin the Housing Economics and Insights Research Team where we seek to accelerate housing affordability through the production and mobilization of research, data and insights. In the role of Specialist, Housing Research, you will be working in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative, and results-focused work environment where you will support the research function by contributing to the design and delivery of housing research needed to support evidence-based decision-making among government partners and other key housing stakeholders. New research, data and insights will focus on strengthening Canada #39;s housing system to help to ensure that more Canadians have a home they can afford and that meets their needs.What you #39;ll do:
  • Undertake research on a range of housing, issues, challenges and solutions in relation to CMHC and other government priorities, ensuring the quality, accuracy, timeliness and reliability of research and products.
  • Recommend research topics that reflect current corporate and government priorities as well as leading edge ideas with the potential to advance the future of housing research in Canada.
  • Conceive, conduct, manage and complete research projects in a variety of housing and housing-related issues.
  • Manage and guide the work of external research consultants to ensure compliance with contracted deliverables and schedules and oversee the quality of information and analysis contained.
  • Provide a challenge and oversight function on research, analysis and data development.
  • Monitor trends and emerging issues in the housing sector through intelligence gathering, environmental scans, professional relationship building, and participation in external workshops and events.
  • Seek opportunities to effectively communicate our data, research findings and insights to target key audiences (internal and external) and decisions.
What you should have:
  • A postgraduate degree in economics, finance, building science, engineering or related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience directly related to research in the field of housing.
  • A working knowledge of the housing landscape (current and historical), including economic, social and political trends driving housing policy in Canada.
  • A knowledge of, and experience with, research and analysis of primary and secondary data using appropriate methodologies, qualitative, quantitative and statistical analysis and providing data and insights to support decision-making.
  • A demonstrated experience developing research projects in terms of scope, objectives and methodologies.
  • The ability to distill and synthesize large volumes of complex information into clear and concise insights.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles.
It would be great if you also had:
  • A Doctoral degree in economics, finance, building science, engineering or related discipline.
  • A knowledge of the housing finance system, residential mortgage market and financial vulnerabilities, or demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian residential construction landscape, including current and emerging trends in applied building science.
  • Bilingualism (Englishamp; French).
