Job Description

Do you have maintenance and grounds keeping experience Consider this opportunity with the Niagara Detention Centre to provide general and preventative maintenance services and upkeep of the institutional grounds and equipment.Note: this position requires you to work on an on-call basis. The hours of work are 0 to 40 hours per week, including weekends and statutory holidays, based on operational requirements and with no guaranteed hours.The Ontario Public Service (OPS) is one of the largest employers in the province, with a wide range of exciting career opportunities. What can I expect to do in this role
  • Inspect, repair, replace, and fix equipment, furniture, fixtures, and areas of the building/grounds
  • Conduct a variety of routine and preventative maintenance
  • Clean and service appliances and machines
  • Maintain institutional grounds (ex: mow the lawn, snow removal, watering and tending to plants, waste management, fertilizing, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

  • You have knowledge and experience in mechanical maintenance and grounds keeping
  • You are able to understand and work from plans, blueprints, system maps, etc.
  • You have experience in the safe operation of hand and power tools/equipment
  • You have knowledge of health and safety and ability to follow organizational policies/protocols
Skills
  • You have communication skills in order to interact with staff, suppliers, and inmates as well as report issues to management
  • You have problem-solving skills in order to conduct inspections, assess maintenance and grounds keeping needs, and carry out maintenance duties
  • You can manage work within required timeframe
