Find out more at our website.Position DescriptionTitle: Corporate Health and Safety Manager - Canada and InternationalDepartment: Health & SafetyImmediate Supervisor: Director of SafetyStatus: ExemptPosition Purpose: To help us reach our goals we are looking for a seasoned leader to join our team in Truro, Nova Scotia in the role of Corporate Health and Safety Manager. The incumbent will lead the health and safety function within the Canadian and International Businesses. The incumbent will focus on the areas of employee and leadership engagement, risk reduction, and implementing a strong safety culture. This critical role will assist us with taking the next steps in our safety journey.Principle Accountabilities

  • Develop, review, maintain and implement health and safety policies, ensuring they are updated and current with legislation.
  • Evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards and develop strategies to control risks in the workplace.
  • Ensure all staff receive appropriate training in the area of health and safety.
  • Ensure all incidents are investigated and action items are implemented that address the root cause.
  • Work closely with each business to address issues and closure of corrective action identified during inspection and incident reports.
  • Ensure that appropriate corrective measures are provided for unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
  • Oversee all JOHS committees providing support and guidance by communicating corporate procedures, coaching, training, and follow up on issues related to health and safety.
  • Ensure all facilities have a process to conduct Inspections for site, audit the effectiveness of the H&S systems, identify gaps in the systems and recommends solutions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of workplace inspections.
  • Develops, facilitates, and ensures training requirements are in compliance. Such as new hire orientation, refresher and job specific training in the area of health and safety.
  • Maintains statistics regarding health and safety incidents and accidents. Analyzes statistics to determine trends as well as advise on proactive solutions.
  • Work with Corporate Health and Safety leaders to support and implement corporate safety initiatives.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • A post-secondary degree coupled with a CRSP designation is preferred.
  • 3 + years of full-time multi-site experience as a OH&S practitioner. A relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • A proven track record in change management in the area of health and safety that led to improve safety results.
  • Experience delivering/facilitating training in the area of health and safety.
  • Previous experience with DNV and CSA guarding requirements are a strong asset.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and facilitate health and safety programs and policies
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to get others to commit to working safely.
  • Good communication, organizational, presentation and writing skills.
  • Proficiency working with computers including MS Office.
