Job Description

Our MissionThe Colchester Historical Society continues to preserve and present Colchester County’s past by striving to offer an authentic and inclusive perspective of local history and culture through community and visitor engagement in its operation of the Colchester Historeum, a museum and archives located in Truro, Nova Scotia. Using contemporary methods of interpretation, collections management, and education, we encourage conversation, understanding, and meaningful connections between all individuals.You will be the first contact our customers, members, and volunteers will interact with when they arrive at the Colchester Historeum. The Customer Service Representative must provide a friendly, welcoming environment for all who visit. You must have a willingness to gain the knowledge necessary to achieve a strong understanding of our Museum and Archives services, enabling you to address visitor enquires.

  • Ability to run a cash system and reconcile cash, credit, and debit amounts
  • Prepare Museum for opening and shut down at closing
  • Answer visitor/member enquiries, by informing them of the services the Museum and Archives provide
  • Complete membership forms for renewals/new members (provide completed sheets to Administrator)
  • Book Archives appointments online for visitors/members when requested
  • Fill in research request form for Archives requests (in person or over the phone)
  • Consult with Archives Researcher for any “drop-in” research requests for their availability to accommodate
  • Keep a running inventory of Book Shop items (excel) report sale to Administrator for restocking
  • Keep front office supplies available for everyday use, advise Administrator of supplies needed
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • Excellent problem solving abilities
  • Ability to build sustainable relationships and trust with customers, members, volunteers and other staff members
  • Have the ability to enjoy interactive communication with people of all ages and a real desire to connect with our community
  • Be comfortable working with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Keep the Gift Shop tidy and organized, take note of issues which needs to be addressed
Hours – 9:30 – 4:30 (hour lunch), Tuesday – Friday (24 hrs per week) $15 per hourMust be flexible to work some evenings and Saturday’s as required, scheduled days will adjust to accommodate.Must have completed grade 12 or equivalent.* Bilingual is an asset*Training is provide.Job Type: Part-timePart-time hours: 24 per weekSalary: $15.00 per hourSchedule:
