JOB OPPORTUNITY: 2SLGBTQIA+ Program CoordinatorDirections Program Coordinator Competition #101-22About this RoleDirections Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children, families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community. We believe in the resiliency of Vancouver’s youth who are at-risk, homeless, and street-involved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance issues. Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing challenges of street life, substance use, mental health concerns, and disconnection from their communities. Directions inclusive programs of shelter and drop-in, safe houses and other unique programs are committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and fostering low-barrier spaces where all youth are welcome.The 2SLGBTQIA+ Program Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating program activities, developing and delivering program workshops, and providing support to youth accessing the program.   • Bachelor’s degree in social work, youth care, or related field.
  • Three (3) years experience working with homeless and/or at-risk youth, plus one (1) year experience with program coordination and leadership.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of program management and development procedures
  • Knowledge of community, social and health resources that is relevant to youth, specifically MCFD.
  • Knowledge of the systemic issues that affect low income and marginalized young people.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and issues relating to at risk and homeless youth; these include mental health issues, alcohol and drug misuse and addictions and sexual exploitation.
  • Knowledge of youth empowerment, youth engagement and working with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of and belief in the Harm Reduction model.
  • Ability to work in a gender and culturally diverse population.
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, mediates, manage aggressive behavior, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
  • Knowledge of computers and relevant software: word processing, database systems, internet and email.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize and manage a varied list of responsibilities and challenges and meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of systems and barriers facing 2SLGBTQIA+ youth
Additional Requirements
  • Current First Aid, CPR
  • Non-Violent Intervention Training
  • Food Safe Level 1
  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status will be required
