At FortisAlberta, we power Alberta communities and empower our people to do their best work.What Are We Looking ForFortisAlberta is looking for a six (6) month term Project Assistant to provide a variety of project management support within the individual project functional areas. These functional areas currently include Design, Regional Projects Project Controls, Project Accounting, and may include other areas in the future.As a Project Assistant for the Design department, this role will assist with the assembly and printing of construction plans; the entry of proposed facility extensions of small and medium projects into G-Electric mapping system; and update the material order and finalize the construction package for use in the field. This position will also be responsible for ordering location maps, pipeline and underground research, easements, land title searches and registered plans. Additionally, work with the Approvals group to obtain approvals or notifications associated with projects to ensure they are part of the construction package and communicate with customers and external agencies throughout the project construction phase.With the Project Controls department, the Project Assistant will assist in maintaining project schedules, tracking systems and project governance documentation as well as monitor and maintain project specific systems and documentation and communicate issues and risks with Stakeholders. Day to day, the Project Assistant will respond to customer enquiries, provide project updates to customers and stakeholders and coordinate project close reporting.The Project Assistant’s responsibility for the Project Accounting department includes completing and closing work orders such as updating records, paying purchase orders, processing material returns, generating cost reports, and other related duties. This role will also receive, and process return data including processing and distributing information associated with records and entering site IDs, and process ERS purchase orders in an accurate and timely manner. This position will compare final ‘As-Built’ construction prints to SAP cost reports ensuring completeness and accuracy of the project costs and investigate discrepancies if required.Other general duties will include administrative functions such as prepare reports and analysis documents, create and print construction/SLD prints or single line diagrams, and enter data accurately into various systems (i.e. SAP, Project Management Tool, CRM, etc.). The Project Assistant will also review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing policies, procedures and practices; recommend and implement approved improvements. Additionally, assist or backup other Project Assistants, assist Design Specialist/Technologists as required and special projects and other duties as assigned.What will you bring to the role

  • Ability to apply judgment in determining appropriate procedures and requirements for various distribution projects.
  • Basic understanding of electrical system function and distribution operations.
  • General knowledge of terminology related to project management and power system engineering policies and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in MS Office, SAP and AM/FM.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for organization in order to complete construction packages.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; this includes good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer service focus supported by solid organizational and time management skills in order to prioritize numerous projects and competing demands.
  • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency in processes and practices.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Qualifications we are looking for:
  • High School Diploma including Grade 12 Math and Grade 12 English plus a minimum of 3 years of experience in an administrative role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A degree or diploma in a related discipline (e.g. Business Administration, Computer or Engineering Technology) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
