Job Description

West-Can Seal Coating Inc. (WCS) is a privately owned highway maintenance company specializing in pavement preservation and roadway construction across Western Canada for almost 40 years. Headquarters located in Didsbury, Alberta, WCS completes contracts across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba for both public and private sectors.WCS is seeking qualified candidates to join our team for the upcoming 2022 construction season to join us on the road as we complete projects across western Canada.WCS is always looking for good people. Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Operating highway truck as assigned and operating heavy equipment if required.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Exhibit defensive driving, anticipate hazards, obey posted speed limits and continuously cognizant of surroundings.
  • Hauling raw materials or equipment as assigned.
  • Responsible for securing load, conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance on truck.
  • Maneuver truck into loading or unloading positions and follow hand signals from ground man.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections.
  • Ensure all vehicle documents and applicable permits are valid and present in the vehicle.
  • Fuel, lubricate, clean and maintain truck/equipment.
  • Report mechanical deficiency to Foreman and/or field mechanic.
  • Maintain daily driver logs.
  • Fill out all necessary paperwork accurately, neatly and completely.
  • Maintain IFTA paperwork (daily).
  • Be aware of surroundings at all times.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; working safely is a condition of employment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform miscellaneous activities throughout the day, as directed.
Required Knowledge and Experience
  • Previous highway construction experience an asset including knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
  • Valid Class 1 Drivers License.
  • Ability to provide a 5 Year Commercial Drivers Abstract with fewer than 6 demerit points and be insurable.
  • All applicants are required to successfully meet all post-offer, pre-employment fit for duty requirements, which includes drug and alcohol testing.
  • First-Aid & CPR Certificate an asset.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Willing to work overtime, as required (up to 16 hours per shift).
  • Willingness to work out of town, travel to remote locations and spend extended time away from home.
  • Physically fit, repetitively lift and heavy lifting required (up to 50 pounds).
  • This position is physically demanding and requires crouching, bending, lifting, and kneeling.
  • Dependable work ethic, hardworking and the ability to follow directions.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinating with fellow drivers, crew and customers.
  • Excellent mechanical knowledge.
  • Provide a resume with at least two references.

  • Motel Accommodations paid by WCS while working out of town.
  • Per Diem – A non-taxable meal allowance paid when away from the Employer’s Home Base (Didsbury).
