Community Services enhances the quality of life of residents by facilitating and supporting community partnerships to provide opportunities that contribute to an economically strong, socially connected, culturally vibrant, and sustainable community.The Opportunity:The City of Airdrie has experienced significant population growth over the past 20 years and as a result the community has outgrown a number of facilities. Council has identified two projects as priorities to expand Airdrie’s community facilities. The first project is a new central library/multi use facility, envisioned to feature an expanded central library and to house additional uses which will augment library services and collectively act as a catalyst to revitalizing the downtown and serving as a hub for community development. The second project is a new multi-use recreation focused facility that will address the emerging community needs and priorities. The project is in the land development and servicing stages with pre planning activities such as community needs assessment and functional program planning on the horizon. The City of Airdrie’s approach to these significant and complex community projects is to retain external Project Management Services supported by an internal Project Team and working groups.The City of Airdrie is looking for a dynamic, experienced individual that has been involved in planning community facilities. You will be knowledgeable in the processes to gather information to assist Council in making informed decisions to address community needs, coordination of information to ensure all Project Team members are providing expertise to guide the development of project plans, coordinate the activities of the Project Team and to ensure that the project plans are executed as defined. You will be able to demonstrate proficiency using different information technology applications and project management tools.Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide administrative assistance and support to project managers
  • Carry out contract administration activities to support third party contracts
  • Assist the project manager with evaluation of project issues and concerns
  • Organize, schedule and coordinate internal working group meetings aligned with project governance and Charter
  • Preform project documentation and record management
  • Document and follow up on working group activities
  • Assist with project activities that increase public awareness and knowledge of projects
  • Ensure projects adhere to City of Airdrie frameworks and policies
  • Coordinate planning and reporting aligned with internal processes
  • Assist with post project transition to service area responsible for operating the facility
You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, architecture, community planning or project management certification (IAPM or PMI)
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a project coordinator
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of Municipal policies and procedures as well as an understanding of Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation is an asset
  • Previous experience on an integrated project team, responsible for the planning, designing and construction of new facilities in a public service organization
  • Detail orientated and able to work under pressure and project deadlines
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve project and technical issues
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment, demonstrating sound judgment and initiative to establish priorities, meet client expectations and deadlines
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, demonstrating tact and diplomacy in order to establish effective working relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to formulate and coordinate plans for a variety of projects, sometimes concurrently
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to quickly align with shifting priorities, work assignments and timelines
