Job Description

Are you a Driver Trainer with a passion for SafetyGREAT! We are looking for you to join our amazing team in Airdrie!The ideal candidate will be someone who has a proven track record as commercial vehicle truck driver coupled with training/instructional skills to develop new recruits as well as existing drivers. The individual selected for this position will evaluate the driving skills of potential driver candidates. In addition, the Driver Trainer will conduct safety training according to XTL #39;s well-defined training program for drivers. Through follow-up and coaching, the Driver Trainer will be an advocate for the required professional behaviours and expectations set forth by XTL.Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial vehicle driving experience;
  • Be part of the mentor team
  • Valid Class 1 license
  • Valid AZ license;
  • Bilingual (required for Quebec-based positions);
  • Strong knowledge of safety and compliance in transportation;
  • Proven ability to instruct/teach/facilitate in a classroom setting and deliver training programs;
  • Ability to work with technical tools such E-logs and compliance App #39;s
  • Ability to clearly demonstrate current knowledge in the following subjects:
  • Hours of Service / Fatigue prevention
    • Dangerous Goods
    • Defensive Driving
    • WHMIS/Healthamp; Safety
Responsibilities:
  1. Log Auditing
    1. Commence each day addressing E-Log conflicts, unidentified logs and uncertified logs.Take corrective action with drivers to prevent being in violation of the regulations. Document all training and corrective action.
  2. Investigate Telematic data
    1. Review all telematic data for at risk behaviour.Take corrective action with drivers. Document all training and corrective action.
      1. Create Safety trends for drivers using bendex data, coach/address poor performing drivers
      2. HOS/Speedguage/MPG violations/ reporting
      3. Review Safety Direct, Trend and Analyze
      4. Provide remedial training to drivers
  3. Circle Checkamp; Driver Road Skill Testing
    1. Prepare a planned route that tests all the skills and elements ofsafe driving and professional behaviour.
      1. Conduct a thorough evaluation of drivers circle check and driving skills - documented
      2. Provide coaching on any areas that need attention and have driver sign off
  4. Orientationamp; Mentor Program
    1. Conduct new-hire safetyamp; orientation training; including all safety and compliances policies and procedures
      1. Conduct Road tests
      2. Maintain and update the Driver Handbook and relevant safetyamp; compliance sections
      3. Track training via AS400 and ensure certificate issuance
      4. Manage Driver supplies/inventory and records of receipt
      5. Train Mentors
      6. Co-ordinate Mentor assignments with Operations
      7. Participate in Mentor Meeting
      8. Enter mentor pay
  5. 30 / 60 / 90 + Annual Review Blitz Audits
    1. Monitor drivers performance and provide coaching / corrective action
      1. Document progress at time of review
      2. Conduct yardquot;blitz #39;s quot; to promote compliance awareness concerning: CT-PAT, Pre/Post Inspections/Log Book /3 point hand hold
      3. Elevate to management any performance that is not responding to coaching / corrective actions
  6. Prevention / Retention / Continuous Improvement
    1. Participate in resolving system issues (PeopleNet / Mir2Mir / Speed Gauge)
      1. Participate in the development of training materials for new initiatives, equipment or regulations
      2. Collaborate with other div. on methods to keep training fresh and relevant
      3. Maintainamp; promote training schedule includingquot;open classes quot; that are available to divers looking to refresh skills
      4. Pro-activelyinspect, road test and follow-up on all unseated trucks to ensure they are in proper order
      5. Participate in the monthly production of Driver Newsletter or bulletins
      6. Participate in Driver Safety meetings and proactive training initiatives
      7. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (quality, risk reduction, prevention)
      8. Coordinate with counter terminals in an effort to ensure driver handbooks are up-to-date and accurate
      9. Coordinate and organize 6 safety blitzes per year
  7. Accidents and Health and Safety Program
    1. On call to assist in responding to Accidents
      1. Participate (as required) during accident investigations
      2. Interview drivers for root cause and with the assistance of HR, prescribe corrective action
      3. Ensure accidents are reported to management asap, have driver fill out accident report, send to Management and add report to DC
      4. Work with Director of Safety to determine if there is any course of action required for the driver, any training needed etc...
      5. Document all training and corrective action...
    2. Responsible for the overall Health and Safety Program
      1. Oversee and chair the Safety Committee for assigned terminal
      2. Appoint and direct the safety committee members. Ensure inspections and incident reviews focus on claim prevention - particularly in areas that we #39;ve experienced injury or incidents of concern
      3. Lead the Health and Safety Meetings
      4. Responsible for OH amp;S compliance
      5. Responsible for Meeting Minutes and to follow up on items that arise from the meetings
      6. Elevate issues of concern
