Job Description

St. Martin de Porres School410 Yankee Valley Blvd. SW, CalgaryPositions15 hours Education Assistant + 15 hours School AssistantSalary15.75 – 19.20 per hour (Category 2)17.78 – 21.62 per hour (Category 3)Overall AccountabilityThe Education Assistant works in the classroom assisting students with diverse learning needs. This includes those who have academic, social, emotional and communication needs (mild – severe) and/or reflect an Educational Support I (ES-I) learning profile. The School Assistant supports students and teachers and assists with clerical support to administration, personnel, parents and students.Specific Accountabilities

  • Assists students individually and in small groups
  • Assists students’ self-care (dressing, toileting, etc.)
  • Assists with assessment and data tracking
  • Provides general supervision of students during out of class time
  • Assists in planning and supervising field trips
  • Photocopying, typing, computer data entry, phoning, bulletin boards, preparing charts, and teaching materials
  • Contributes to class planning activities, behavior and progress reviews
  • Assists with the implementation of Learner Support and other response plans
  • Assists students during school celebrations, liturgical events, services and attendance at Mass at local parishes
  • Assists teachers in the delivery of instruction
  • Prepares materials, constructs and assembles displays, duplicates and distributes educational materials
  • Supports personnel with filing, transportation passes, mail, faxes and other clerical duties
  • Duplicates and distributes other school materials
Qualifications
  • Category 2 – High School Diploma
  • Category 3 – High School Diploma and the equivalent of minimum one (1) year post-secondary course study
  • May require any of the following depending upon assignment:
    • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates
    • Behaviour management training
    • Lifting techniques
    • Rehabilitation experience
    • Restrictive intervention practices
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good communication, organization and interpersonal skills
