Job Description

Job Title Employment Peer MentorReports to Youth Employment Partnership CoordinatorInclusion Alberta fosters family leadership and advocacy in the pursuit of fully inclusive community lives for children and adults with developmental disabilities.The Employment Peer Mentor is a part-time employment opportunity that focuses on supporting youth with developmental disabilities in their workplace. We are looking for individuals who are interested in working with youth who have developmental disabilities to support them in an inclusive workplace. Employment begins with training and orientation and extends through the duration of the youth’s on-the-job training and beyond. Travel is required for this position, to Airdrie.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Peer Mentor is responsible for supporting the youth with a developmental disability in performing responsibilities within a workplace, in such a way that fosters independence
  • The Peer Mentor will continually assess the vocational, social, communication, and independent skills required by the specific job setting, as well as identify job site modifications as needed
  • The Peer Mentor will be required to comply with the policies and procedures at the specific job sites they are assigned too
  • Complete detailed daily summaries of shifts worked
  • Report regularly to the Youth Employment Partnership Coordinator
  • Full training is provided. All Peer Mentors will be required to participate in training and orientation with Inclusion Alberta.
Qualifications: We are seeking an individual who is committed to the inclusion of persons with developmental disabilities in community life.
  • Deep & abiding commitment to inclusion (as demonstrated by one’s experiences, participation, and contributions to community)
  • Exhibit the highest level of professionalism
  • Dedicated learner, reflective practitioner, and committed to one’s professional development
  • Astute critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities is an asset, but not required.
  • Mentors should be of similar age to the individuals they are mentoring (i.e., grades 11 or 12).
Working Conditions: This contract position is part-time with an hourly rate of $17/hr. Hours will vary each month and flexibility in schedule is required based on duties assigned.
