(WCS) specializes in pavement preservation and roadway construction completing contracts across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba for both public and private sectors.Western Asphalt Products (WAP) has invested in the latest technology to manufacture the highest quality asphalt emulsions available in today’s market with terminals strategically located in Brandon, Manitoba and Bruderheim, Alberta.At WCS and WAP, we offer an exciting place to build your career with competitive compensation and benefit packages including RRSP matching.Job OverviewThis position reports to Ownership of WCS & WAP and has frequent contact with payroll, project superintendents and various administrative staff; the HR Generalist (HRG) supports in areas of recruitment, labour relations, employee relations, performance management, training and development. The HRG will be well versed in laws, regulations, and best practices related to hiring, onboarding, training regarding policies and procedures, performance management and discipline/termination of employees. Your day will consist of data entry, analysis, support and advisory services.Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Performs organizational job planning including creation and maintenance of job descriptions, job evaluations and classification, and comparative compensation evaluations.
  • Recruitment of new staff utilizing a variety of social platforms to reach new potential candidates in the job market including pre-screening, interviews, onboarding and compliance checks.
  • Carryout research, evaluation, development and implementation of training and development programs aligned with organizational goals.
  • Partner with management on career development and succession planning efforts and establishing/maintaining/identifying internal and external training programs.
  • Track and report on company turnover and attrition; monitor various trends and make recommendation to management when problem areas are identified.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR personnel files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and up to date including training records, disciplinary documentation, benefits and license verifications.
  • Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and discrimination and lead workplace investigations when necessary.
  • Monitor Workers Compensation Board claims.
  • Assists with various department projects and the potential for additional duties as assigned.

  • Decision making; participate in day-to-day operational decision making within established policies and procedures under the guidance of the management team.
Essential Requirements
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – ability to create/manipulate documents using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Be able to identify and work through problems and conflicting issues in a clear and diplomatic manner.
  • Be able to review and interpret data, transactions, policies and business practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cross province provincial and federal personnel laws, labour laws, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of organizational management, payroll, benefits and budget processes.
  • Ability to prepare, present and review oral and written information and documents.
Preferred RequirementsBachelors degree in Human Resources, business or related field or equivalent experience.Minimum of 3 years of consistent and recent experience in a human resources coordinator or specialist role.Working towards the CPHR designation, completion of CPHR designation is an asset.Work ConditionsYou primarily work in an office setting during regular business hours.
