Job Description

Your Opportunity:The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing specialized mental health assessment and consultation services in the context of patients presenting by walk in, referral or via EMS, who require urgent crisis assessment and brief therapy in relation to acute mental health issues. Clinicians are responsible for providing mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, referrals and advocacy. Clinically focused liaison and consultation to colleagues within the hospital and with community service providers is also required. Clinicians are required to have awareness and sensitivity to working with diverse populations. Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and an ability to work independently are essential. A good working knowledge of community agencies and programs is an asset.Description:As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students.

Required Qualifications:This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists. Social Workers and Psychologists: Completion of bachelor degree in Social Work or Psychology. Active or eligible registration with the Alberta College of Social Work (ACSW) or the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses: Completion of an accredited nursing or psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).Additional Required Qualifications:Registered Nurse, (BN, BSc, MN), Registered Social Worker (BSW, MSW), Registered Psychologist (M. Psych). Must be eligible for registration with appropriate professional association. CARNA; ACSW; ACAP Single Session Crisis Counseling experience.Preferred Qualifications:3 – 5 years’ experience in the Addiction and Mental Health. Community and Crisis experience. Experience working with multidisciplinary team and community agencies. Experience working with diverse populations. Strong mental health assessment, crisis management and counselling skills.
