Job Description

Eaton’s Electrical Sector is currently seeking an Operations Manager based at our Airdrie, Alberta manufacturing plant.Position Overview:As a member of the Senior Site Leadership Team, the primary function of the Operations Manager is to develop strategic direction and lead key manufacturing processes to ensure engineering and production objectives are aligned with safety, quality and customer requirements. The Operations Manager supports the operation’s strategic plan by providing specific product designs that meet customer order requirements, product quality standards, and product delivery commitments. This role serves as the tactical liaison between the Plant Manager, the engineering team and the production managers/supervisors, while leading others in achieving their organizational goals at the Airdrie facility. In addition, this role directly manages the maintenance department and is the facility manager for the plant.Making what matters work at Eaton takes the passion of every employee around the world.   • Develop and organize engineering and operations capacity plans to support market needs for current and forecasted business.
  • Align engineering and production activities to ensure a smooth flow from the time an order enters the front end to when it ships complete from the location.
  • Monitor on time performance, cycle time & productivity and implement appropriate continuous improvement.
  • Offer day-to-day technical guidance to manufacturing and engineering departments.
  • Review new technology and provide consultation and advice to marketing & engineering on plant capabilities.
  • Direct the Order Engineering team on providing timely and accurate drawings, materials information, engineering/product support for marketing/GSF and plant manufacturing.
  • Direct the Manufacturing Engineering team on product cost improvement, updating and creation of CNC programs, MBM’s, tooling information, standard setup and run times, standard drawings and issuing of ECN’s, NPN’s and product directives.
  • Direct Manufacturing Engineering team on maintenance of lines for all products.
  • Effectively manage large projects from start to finish.
  • Ensures production objectives are met within approved budget, schedules, and quality specifications.
  • Work with the production managers/supervisors to develop improvements in production methods, standards, and procedures to ensure effective use of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations by all employees.
  • Review and evaluate performance, quality and cost improvement objectives for engineering and manufacturing departments.
  • Help maintain and support OpA, ISO, EQS, ELSS, MESH and other Eaton related programs.
FACILITIES & MAINTENANCE
  • Oversee the repair of all mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, machines, and components.
  • Manage the facilities/maintenance team to ensure timely response to work orders
  • Ensure the maintenance of service equipment, work area, maintenance tool crib and spare parts inventory.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain a TPM program in the facility.
  • Oversee the installation of new equipment, movement of machinery and equipment as required, using MESH delegated move plans.
  • Oversee the coordination of the work of outsourced mechanical contractors performing work for or within the plant.

  • University Degree or College Diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in manufacturing or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • No relocation is offered for this position.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, and quality control processes and procedures.
  • Project management Experience.
  • Masters Business Administration
  • Experience with Lean management and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Prior operations experience within the electrical industry.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of budgetary process and the ability to manage budgets
  • Willingness & ability to challenge the status quo and create a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to partner with all levels of leadership and consistently achieve results in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Strong MS Office skills; PowerPoint, Excel (Advanced), Outlook
