The Payroll Officer prepares reports and processes all compensation and payroll deductions for both employee and employer. The incumbent is an effective communicator with excellent organization, prioritization, time management and customer service skills.ResponsibilitiesCreates, reviews, and evaluates payroll practices and procedures to improve services and accuracyCoordinates and processes payroll for all RVS employees; ensures employees are correctly and appropriately paid in accordance with federal and provincial regulation and the Board’s collective agreement or terms of employmentAdministers, reconciles and or/remits a variety of documents related to employee hires, terminations, retirements and various benefits entitlementsPerforms timesheet calculation and data entry; benefit deduction calculations; reporting and filing; pay increases; wage garnishments; workers compensation payments; deferred compensation; direct deposit submission; distribution of pay statementsPrepares and verifies statements and record of earning for employees, indicating gross and net salaries, deductions (such as taxes, dues, insurances, pensions etc.)Processes payroll audits, employment insurance claims, employment verifications, sick and vacation accruals and employment correspondenceCompiles payroll information utilizing several software applications, including but not limited to Powerschool Atrieve, Microsoft Office, Alberta Teachers Retirement Fund (ATRF), Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), and Service Canada web programsAssists in completing various payroll projects by conducting research, gathering information and generate reports for employees, supervisors, or outside agencies in a timely mannerEducation/ExperiencePayroll Compliance Practitioner certificationTwo-year certificate from college or technical school in areas of accounting, bookkeeping, and/or payroll administrationThree to five years successful experience in complete payroll process functions, preferably in a school division or large organizationExperience in performing bookkeeping and accounting functions is considered an assetKnowledge and Skills:Thorough knowledge of organization, payroll procedures and current government regulationsAbility to meet strict payroll reporting deadlines, while exposed to frequent interruptions and/or dealing with challenging customer service situationsAttention to detail and consistency in process applicationAbility to think critically, problem-solve, and provide favorable resolutions to conflictsAbility to work independently, with strong planning, organization and executions skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external clientsRocky View Schools Benefits3 weeks Vacation pro-rated based on start date11 Earned Days pro-rated based on start dateHybrid (one day a week, working remotely) with Supervisor approvalFlex Benefits Plan (Extended health, Dental, Wellness/Health Care Spending Account, Tax Free Savings Account and Registered Retirement Savings Plan)Defined Pension PlanProfessional development and training opportunitiesFree parkingPre-employment RequirementsThe successful candidate must submit a current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of the start of your employmentProof of qualifications/education as required by the positionOpen to: Internal and External applicantsSalary: $35.05 - $42.57 per hourHo w to ApplyWe request all applications be placed through http://rockyview.simplication.com/.
