We’re a place where you just might be a perfect fit.Our Team:The mandate of the Capital Projects Office (CPO) is to provide governance, process and tools for delivering corporate projects (excluding IT and equipment). Promote a transparent/predictable process to support the successful execution of all projects. Provide excellent service in delivering customer projects using the PMI® Project Management Standard.The Opportunity:We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, positive and willing to make a difference in our community to join our team of Project Managers. Reporting to the Team Leader of the Capital Projects Office, this position is responsible for planning and delivering large and small, complex capital projects as part of the 10-year Capital program.Primary accountabilities include:

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams throughout the project lifecycle and achieve the project objectives, within the constraints of time, scope, cost and quality
  • Primarily provide project management services for the design, construction and renovation of City facilities. This role will specialize in vertical infrastructure (buildings), although other types of projects may be assigned. Typically, projects will be in the $1-5 M range
  • Provide project teams and stakeholders with consistent structure, methods, techniques and tools to successfully complete projects using project standard methodology from PMI®
  • Promote project management awareness, leadership, functional consultation and guidance in the use of the corporate project management methodology and tools and actively participate in continuous improvement to the process
You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Architecture, or a Diploma in applicable Engineering/Architectural field with an appropriate designation. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or the equivalent of formal training in a recognized project management methodology. A PMP designation will be a requirement within 2 years.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in a construction environment including managing and administrating contracts
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of Provincial/Federal regulations, standards and codes, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical and building Codes
  • Previous experience managing multiple concurrent projects in various stages of the project lifecycle, with multi-million-dollar budgets, knowledge of financial reporting processes, budget preparation and expenditure forecasting
  • Valid Alberta or equivalent Advanced Class 5 Driver’s License (must be Advanced, not GDL)
  • Practical understanding of the PM Book of Knowledge and all associated processes
  • Efficiently use Microsoft products, with specific experience using Outlook, Excel, Word and Project
  • Practical understanding and use of AutoCAD or Civil 3D are considered a benefit
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment, demonstrating sound judgment and initiative to establish priorities and meet client expectations and deadlines
  • Strong team leadership and ability to lead project teams to a specific goal
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within the department, the organization, consultants and contractors
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in order to establish effective working relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to formulate and coordinate plans for a variety of projects
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability in customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, accountability and flexibility/adaptability
