We’re a place where you just might be a perfect fit.Our Team:The City of Airdrie, Water Services Department, is currently recruiting two seasonal stormwater employees. These positions will support Water Services by monitoring and maintaining stormwater infrastructure, riparian areas and Nose Creek. The ideal candidates will have a background in environmental science, water quality monitoring, invasive species identification and control, and municipal stormwater infrastructure.We invite applications from individuals who enjoy working in a collaborative team environment, are self-motivated, innovative, results focused, and customer service orientated.The Opportunity:

  • Performing field inspections of stormwater infrastructure including outfalls, culverts, oil and grit separators, swales and stormwater ponds
  • Conducting water quality monitoring within stormwater ponds and Nose Creek
  • Conducting general maintenance activities including sediment, vegetation and debris removal from within and adjacent to stormwater management ponds, swales, and Nose Creek
  • Conducting invasive species removal from within stormwater management facilities
  • Installing and maintaining stormwater treatment initiatives including floating islands and wetland vegetation
  • Monitoring for algae growth
  • Responding to resident concerns regarding drainage concerns and stormwater management facilities
  • Communicating with residents at events to promote water conservation and watershed health
  • GIS data collection
You Bring:
  • A high school diploma or equivalency
  • Completion of, or working towards a diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, (Engineering would be considered an asset)
  • A valid Alberta Operators Licence, minimum Class 5 is required
  • Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles and equipment safely and effectively in all conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to provide outstanding customer services
  • Ability to complete various physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions
  • Aptitude for various computer programs and digital data collection devices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate professionally with Airdrie residents during day to day interactions and educational events
