Job Description

With over 130,000 residents, Ajax #39;s rich heritage and culturally diverse community make it a great place to work and live.Temporary Part-time Senior Snow Program Staff(4 months in duration)This position is responsible for delivering a wide range of services relating to the maintenance of Senior Snow applicants and the maintenance of Town facilities, parks, and open space. Includes service delivery of collection of litter, emptying waste receptacles, assisting with maintenance activities/minor repairs to infrastructure, assisting horticulture and forestry staff, and trail maintenance. Operating pick-up trucks with a plow/handwork for snow removal to meet.Job Duties Include

  • Assist with the delivery of the seasonal workplans and meet levels of service relating to the maintenance requirements for senior snow applicants, facilities, parks, and open space.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance functions during the winter control season such as but not limited to snow clearing of private driveways, sidewalks, trails, parking lots, facilities.
  • Operate various types of equipment such as stake trucks, pick-up trucks with plows
  • Collection of litter throughout the Town
  • Operate truck maintaining Town waste containers
  • General Maintenance to Town equipment
  • Assist Parks Maintenance Workers, Environmental Services Workers, Gardeners and Arborists from time to time with tasks (ex: chipping brush, mulching beds, raking, shovel granular material)
Qualifications/Skills
  • Minimum of High School Diploma
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and spend long durations shoveling snow
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. at one time lifting benches, picnic tables etc.
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Good time management skills and flexibility in adjusting between a variety of duties
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Valid Ontario Class#39;G #39; driver #39;s license with a clean driver #39;s abstract
Hours of WorkThis temporary contract is from December 1st, 2023 to March 31st, 2024 and supports the Town #39;s Senior Snow Program. The position works 48 hours within a 2-week period and is scheduled to works days, evenings and weekends and shifts are up to 12-hours in length.
