School District No. 74 (Gold Trail)SCHOOL LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITYVice-Principal - Desert Sands Community SchoolThe Gold Trail School District invites applications for the position of Vice-Principal at Desert Sands Community School commencing August 2021. Desert Sands Community School enrolls approximately 290 students in grades K-12, of which 40% are of Indigenous ancestry. The staff is committed to working together to meet the needs of our diverse learners through the school’s Action Plan for Learning is focused on “we believe that learning happens when students are connected to their families, their peers, and the adults at school. We foster personal and academic growth through personalized, authentic learning experiences and support our students to become self-directed, collaborative members of the school and larger community”.The successful applicant will be a dynamic educator who has demonstrated the following qualities:

  • Leadership experience with elementary and secondary school programs and curriculum.
  • Successful leadership of innovative student achievement initiatives.
  • Ability to produce a positive school climate by empowering others through shared decision-making.
  • Evidence of exemplary teaching experiences.
  • Experience leading and supporting experiential, place-based and inquiry learning.
  • Skill in all aspects of supervision for and of learning.
  • Exceptional ability in working collaboratively with students, staff, parents and community organizations to enhance student achievement.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Enhancement Agreement and commitment to improving school success for Indigenous students.
  • Highly successful experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing a welcoming learning environment that creates a sense of belonging for all students.
  • BC Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Master’s Degree, or working toward completion.
