Job Description

About usThe Sparta Lavender Farm is an Agri-tourism business where people can relax as they wander the extensive gardens or browse in our gift shop.Our company is hiring a competent Garden Associate to ensure that our lavender beds, gardens and fruit trees stay well tended and maintained. As the Associate Gardener, you will work with the Master Gardener on all all stages of garden maintenance, including planning and executing tasks. You must have good communication skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. You should have an interest in working outdoors in a gardening environment. Your job will be to use eco-friendly practices and facilitate environmentally conscious gardening. Since you may be interacting with clients, good communication and people skills are key.Responsibilities:

  • Maintains plants within the gardens and planters.
  • Plants, cultivates, prunes, fertilizes, weeds, removes leaf, debris and litter, applies mulch.
  • Checks for damage/disease, potential hazards and risks, suggests improvements in aesthetics, and provides general health management
  • Performs required maintenance to keep plants healthy.
  • Safely operates and maintains power equipment for landscape maintenance including blowers, string trimmer, brush chipper, water and spraying equipment and hand tools.
  • Inspects garden facilities/fixtures on an on-going basis to identify required repairs, and ensure public safety. Repairs, assembles garden facilities, i.e. constructs or repairs planters, beds, fencing, signs, pathways, etc.
  • Inspects and maintains irrigation systems throughout the gardens.
  • Adheres to Integrated Pest Management practices to control and eliminate pests, adapting and implementing methods as required 
  • Works in most weather conditions
  • Completes work identified on weekly planners and documents completion. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Job Type: Fixed term contractContract length: 3 monthsSalary: $16.00 per hourFlexible language requirement:
