Job Description

Pembina Hills School Division (PHSD) invites applications for a 10 month full-time Speech Language Pathologist starting August 30, 2021.The DivisionPembina Hills School Division provides education to approximately 3800 students in 15 community schools in north central Alberta. PHSD also provides education to over 10,000 students from within and beyond our borders through our online school Vista Virtual School, as well as many students enrolled with other divisions across the province receiving service through the Alberta Distance Learning Centre. For more information on our remarkable Division, please visit our website at www.pembinahills.caThe Position:As the successful candidate, you will work as part of a team in delivering support services to children in pre-school, school, home and community environments, with the majority of the first year of the assignment targeting preschool and kindergarten students. Along with speech language pathologists, your collaborative team would include psychologists, behaviour specialists and special educators, in addition to other occupational therapists.This position is based on the school calendar, with extended time off at Christmas, Easter and the summer. There is also in frequent group consultation and access to numerous regional and national professional development activities. Hours of work will be Monday-Friday at 7.5 hours/day following the school calendar.Provides universal, targeted and individualized supports and services as a member of the School Linked TeamSupports the Child and Family Centered approach to the delivery of services that views the whole family including the child as the focusEngages parents as active partners at home and in planning and decision makingProvides a flexible approach to service delivery adjusting to the diverse and changing needs of the child and familySupports and develops a strength based model of servicesPromotes mental health and wellnessProvides consultative supports and services that promote inclusion and well-being in the areas of: communication skills, social language, literacy skills, as well as low and high tech augmentative communication.Promotes engagement and participation in literacy and numeracy by reducing barriers to learningDelivers services to several school districts in the regionDelivers supports and services in a geographic area that serves the areas of Westlock and Athabasca areas as well as smaller communities in between these locationsThe Candidate:Completion of master's degree in Speech Language PathologyEligibility to register with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and AudiologistsConsideration would also be given to hiring the applicant as an SLP aide while completing the registration processHave a valid driver’s licenseBe available to travel and have access to a vehicleFor further information, please contact:Rob McGarva (Director of Student Services) 780-674-8506 or rob.mcgarva@pembinahills.caThis competition will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.There are inherent risks in the work employees do throughout Pembina Hills School Division (PHSD).
