  • Library and Information Diploma or equivalent;
  • Training and/or experience in record keeping and filing;
  • Excellent computer skills in the following areas: Microsoft Office, Record-Keeping, Internet;
  • Familiar with Insignia computer software;
  • Experience working in an educational setting;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism;
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Responsibilities:Provide knowledgeable, courteous library services such as but not limited to;
  • Provide references services to staff and students under the supervision of the classroom teacher;
  • Maintains a flexible library schedule, so that students and teachers may use the library when required within the library Tech’s work schedule;
  • Informs the principal of shortcomings in the collection, as identified by users;
  • May order new material or supplies as approved by the Principal;
  • Ensure Library users comply with Board Policy concerning acceptable use of the Internet;
Ensures library resources and records are well maintained, organized and accessible. For Example,
  • Operates circulation system, including borrowing records, shelving, overdue notices;
  • Maintains an inventory of library materials ( Shelf list, catalogue, or database where applicable);
  • Maintains and repair existing collection;
  • Organizes and maintain vertical files, periodicals and audiovisual materials;
  • Order supplies required to maintain the library, with Principal approval;
  • Removes as required, materials and equipment from the library collection;
  • Oversees the use and maintenance of library computers and related hardware/software;
Promote the use of the library as a place to learn. For example,
  • Creates artistic display to highlight new acquisitions or current items of interest;
  • Works with teachers to organize book fairs and special library activities;
  • Schedule class visits to the library;
  • Meets with staff to present new acquisitions and promote special library programs and events;
  • Cooperate with other schools and/or public libraries to facilitate inter-library loans;
  • Participates in professional development activities, inservices, and meetings as required;
Other related duties assigned by the Principal.Required** Attach a copy of your Certification, Diploma and or Transcripts from Post-Secondary Education Institute.First consideration will be given to qualified SEIU - Local 2 Members.
