We are always on the lookout for talented individuals to join our team.The Opportunity:Postmedia is seeking an enterprising reporter to join the Bathurst Northern Light team in New Brunswick on a 12-month contract, with the opportunity it could develop into a permanent role.We are looking for a reporter with keen news sense, a clear writing style, who possesses strong news judgment and works well independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate must drum up fresh story ideas, possess a proven ability to meet tight deadlines and have a passion to grow as a reporter.This is an opportunity to work with award-winning journalists in building a digital audience for our subscription-based digital news service, while continuing a tradition of excellence in print. The position is based in New Brunswick and reports to the Community Publications Editor.QualificationsWho you are:

  • University or college-level studies. A journalism degree, diploma or courses are an asset.
  • Newsroom experience is an asset, which can include student journalism
  • A demonstrated ability to cover a variety of news stories, including courts, municipal politics, business and breaking news, with a focus on delivering detailed, accurate work under deadline pressure
  • A self-starter who is always searching for fresh story ideas, but is also willing to take direction and wants to grow as a reporter
  • Highly developed organizational skills - able to multi-task and adapt quickly in high-stress situations
  • Working knowledge of and experience using social media
  • Photography skills are a must
  • Flexibility to work daytime, evening and weekend shifts
  • A car and valid drivers license
