Job Description

Company Description: The Powell Group of companies consists of 7 companies with multiple divisions within each company. The head office is located at Atlantic Grocery Distributors Ltd. (AGD) which is a 100% Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) privately owned and operated Wholesale distributor located in Bay Roberts with a smaller operation on the West Coast in Port aux Basques. Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Three references (Previous Employers)
  • Certificate of Conduct

Key Responsibilities: Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • Assist with the preparation and analytics of monthly financial statements
  • Primarily responsible for the oversight and monthly review of Dave’s Service Center and Golden Crust Bakery
  • Assisting the Controller with the following, but not limited to:
  • Accurate and complete performance of Full Cycle Accounting: AP, AR, GL
  • Responsible to perform Intercompany and Balance Sheet (including bank) reconciliations
  • Responsible for other assigned accounting processes for the Powell Group of Companies, including but not limited to Inbound Freight Income, Debit note processing, Month end clearing entries and Vendor A/R (payments, debit notes, rebates, receivables, etc.)
  • Ad hoc reporting and special projects
  • Site visits to the Powell Group of companies’ locations to provide oversight to internal control processes. Perform ad hoc testing of the same internal controls
  • Year End Audit Preparation
  • Prepare and file HST returns
  • Depreciations Schedules, additions, disposals and updating entries for all companies
  • Preparing and sending Statistics Canada reports
Accounts Receivable
  • Provide high level oversight to the operation of the Accounts Receivable department, which is primarily managed by the Accounts Receivable Manager (who reports directly to the Controller)
  • Provide counsel, direction and support, when required, to Accounts Receivable Lead and oversee the usage and updating of the FTNI system.
  • Update credit limits for customers as well as review and release of the daily credit holds.
  • Intervene in escalated issues of customer payment and collections, approval of account terms, etc.

You communicate financial information in a clear and concise manner, and you are highly capable with a strong interest in overall business operations. You are a big-picture thinker who is comfortable and effective working both at the strategic and tactical level. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are not afraid of multiple computer systems or intercompany transactions.
