We work together with our ownership, communities, stakeholders and industry partners to strengthen Indigenous employee relationships.Job PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Manager, Operational Control, the Licensed Dispatcher is responsible for all technical aspects of flight planning for all aircrafts. The Licensed Dispatcher works closely with the Pilot-in-Command to ensure that flights are safely and efficiently planned and monitored within established standards and regulations. This position ensures that all operations are conducted in compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).As an integral member of the dispatch team your responsibilities include:

  • Analyze operational information including forecast and actual weather conditions, Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), runway and aerodrome suitability, navigation aids, communications, facilities, and other constraints which may affect flights.
  • Responsible for flight planning, including route analysis and calculation of fuel requirements.
  • Formulate, authorize, and issue operational plans for flights.
  • Review, revise and communicate changes to the operational flight plan to the pilot-in-command as required.
  • Ensure that flight plans have been amended and properly filed with the appropriate Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility as required.
  • Maintain flight watch over all flights within the sector of operation.
  • Provide flight crew briefings.
  • Coordinate all aircraft Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and maintenance limitations with Maintenance Control.
  • Communicate information pertaining to irregular operations to the necessary contact as required.
  • Use knowledge and interpretation of changing weather and operating conditions to provide recommendations for flight delays or cancellations. Also analyze operational conditions and identify opportunities that may benefit constrain or impede operational capabilities.
  • Assist in additional duties as outlined in the Company Operations Manual (COM) and dispatch manual. Additional duties will include cross training.
QualificationsTypically, the knowledge and skills required for this position include a high school diploma, with two to three years #39; work experience within a flight operations department in an aviation industry and has successfully completed the Transport Canada flight dispatch exams (FDMET, FDOPS). Preference will be given to applicants with previous dispatch experience in Type A or Type B operational control systems.Skills, knowledge, and abilities include:
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Good organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Valid Air Operator Radio License.
  • 21 years of age or older in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs)
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to organize and meet demanding schedules and work assignments.
  • Exceptional customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated high work standard related to accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and confidentiality.
  • Able and willing to work on modified schedules, including early mornings, late nights, and holidays, and emergency call-ins.
  • Occasional air/ground travel may be required.
