The life of a SARCAN Senior Systems Administrator: The Senior Systems Administrator maintains and supports the ongoing operation of the entire SARC/SARCAN computer network infrastructure and other electronic communications devices, while ensuring minimal network downtime. This position provides extensive support to Systems Administrator 1 and minimal support to end-users and remote users of the computer network. Essential job functions include the following:
  • Computer Network Infrastructure: Includes installing, managing, maintaining and ensuring the effectiveness of computer servers including domain, email, print, and backup servers; installing, managing, maintaining, and ensuring optimal operation of all related network equipment including routers, switches, hubs and UPS, etc.; installing, managing, maintaining, and ensuring effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems; administering, creating and deleting user accounts, rights and permissions as required; managing system backups and recoveries as required; preparing documentation in respect of all aspects of the network installations.
  • Ensuring an effective disaster recovery plan is in place and tested regularly.
  • Ensuring current network images of servers are maintained and backups maintained offsite.
  • Liaising with third-party service providers to ensure end-users are supported as required.
  • Provide support for SARC/SARCAN owned electronic equipment at depot and processing locations.
  • Contributes to all security-related projects as required.
  • Provide support in all technology related matters.
  • Attends training and workshops as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What are the skills you must have to perform this role To be successful as a Senior Systems Administrator at SARCAN, you will need:
  • A degree in computer sciences or other related equivalent education, and ten years related experience in IT infrastructure and applications.
  • Global Information Assurance Certification and Certified Windows System Administrator (GCWN) certification would be considered an asset
  • CompTIA Network+, Security+, PenTest+, Server+, A+ would be considered an asset.
  • M365 Office Suite training/certification would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, triage and prioritize.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and Windows Server
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 admin console and M365 environment
  • Working knowledge of MS Exchange
  • Working knowledge of Windows PowerShell Scripting
  • Working knowledge of Internet naming and routing standards, such as DNS and Domain registrations.
  • Working knowledge of firewalls, routing, and related security
  • Experience developing, setting up, and testing data backup strategies
  • Working knowledge of MS Hyper-V
  • Experience with SharePoint would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Fortinet, Meraki, Unitrends hardware and configuration would be considered an asset.
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting AV equipment would be considered an asset.
  • Exhibits a strong degree of professionalism, while remaining highly-personable and approachable to people of all abilities, cultures and backgrounds.
  • Exhibits high ethical standards; acting with integrity, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Must be committed to teamwork and meeting team goals.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a largely self-directed environment.
  • Ability to learn new technical systems as needed.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adjust priorities and deadlines is also required.
  • Must provide a satisfactory criminal record check as a condition of employment.
