AVRCE Casual Educational Assistants- May 2021ANNAPOLIS VALLEY REGIONAL CENTRE FOR EDUCATIONCasual Educational Assistants (EAs)Are you interested in working with children who require the support of an Educational AssistantCasual Educational Assistants (EAs) are required on an “as needed” basis to work at various schools and at various grade levels. Casual EAs are required to demonstrate:understanding of the role and responsibility of an EAknowledge of the stages of child/youth developmentan awareness of, respect, sensitivity, and awareness of similarities/differences for children with special needsknowledge of health, hygiene and safety including personal/physical care and the safe transfer of studentsunderstanding of behaviour managementknowledge of basic computer applications and technologyawareness of assistive technologyability to work collaboratively with members of a teamability to follow instructions of teachers and school administratorsThe preferred qualifications of a casual EA include:post-secondary training in human services or an interest in obtaining the traininghigh school completion certificate of equivalentability to physically perform the requirements of the positiona desire to work with children and youthrespect for confidentiality and privacy protocolssensitivity and respect for diversityIf you are interested in working as a casual educational assistant, you must successfully complete a Child Abuse Registry Search and a Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector.
