Employment Opportunity – Finance Clerk Berwick is a small town of 2,500 people centrally located in Nova Scotia’s beautiful Annapolis Valley. Berwick has strong agricultural traditions but is at the forefront of climate mitigation through its ownership of the Berwick Electric Commission. They have installed over a dozen electric vehicle chargers, own hydro/wind electricity generation assets and have broken ground on a 22-acre community solar panel project. Safe, affordable, and boasting an excellent quality of life, Berwick is only minutes away from the Nova Scotia Community College and Acadia University. Just over an hour’s drive from HRM, Berwick is far enough from the hustle and bustle to be a relaxing locale, but central enough that only a short drive is required to get anywhere in the Annapolis Valley, including the beautiful Bay of Fundy. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Finance Clerk is for the operational financial activities of the Town and Berwick Electric Commission. Specific functions include accounts payable, general accounting, special projects, property taxes and providing back-up customer service support. A general overview includes: Accounts Payable * Maintain Purchase Order process * Review and input invoices into computerized accounting software. * Prepare and complete weekly cheque runs and Electronic File Transfers (EFT) Property Taxes * Responsible for property tax functions * Maintain assessment roll * Process interim and final tax billings * Manage monthly property tax receivables General Accounting (Operating and Capital) * Prepare and post journal entries * Review bank deposits and post related entries * Complete bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations on a monthly basis. * Prepare and submit quarterly HST remittance * Assist Director of Finance with special projects as required, including annual budget and year-end preparations Qualifications must include post-scondary education in Accounting; a minimum of five years of related experience; exceptional organizational skills, working with competing priorities and attention to detail, extensive knowledge of GAAP. Communicates effectively with peers, staff, other stakeholders and the public.
