Job Description

School Psychologist (195) - NKEC, NMES, BDS (LEC, WHEC, HEC)Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for EducationSchool Psychologist (195) - NKEC, NMES, BDS (LEC, WHEC, HEC)1.00 FTEUnfilledTerms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Nova Scota Teachers Provincial AgreementClosing Date: Midnight, July 5th, 2022Reporting to the Coordinator of Student Services, the School Psychologist will provide psycho educational and diagnostic services for students in the AVRCE. The School Psychologist will be a member of a team working together to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive program plans for these students. The School Psychologist will provide specific services in such areas as:

  • Psycho-educational, social, emotional and behavioral assessments;
  • Facilitate transition plans for students;
  • Support the inclusion of students with challenging academic, behavioral, social-emotional and mental health needs for grades P-12;
  • Facilitate professional development for AVRCE staff;
  • Support staff to address children and youth with chronic school refusal;
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary team on variety of projects relevant to student(s) mental health, including liaison with outside agencies and professionals;
  • Support program planning for students with academic, behavioral, social-emotional and mental health needs including adaptations and individual program planning (IPP) procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A PhD in Psychology is preferred;
  • Masters in School Psychology;
  • A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Willingness to pursue additional training as required which may include Risk Assessments of students with violent behaviours;
  • Participate on school teams: Student Planning Teams and Teaching Support Teams, and will contribute in a variety of ways including the provision of assessment information, direct demonstration of recommendations with the student, collaboration with teachers on in-class, evidence-based Tier 1 strategies, consultation with families and teachers and the provision of professional development for school/regional staff;
  • to assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of complex behaviour plans for individuals and groups of students;
  • A thorough knowledge and application of Inclusion and MTSS structures, and provide support to teachers and students at all 3 tiers using evidence-based practices;
  • Familiarity with, and/or experience working in multi-disciplinary programs for children and youth with behavioral and mental health needs;
  • Computer literacy required with demonstrated skills in the application of assistive technology;
  • Excellent team building, communication and interpersonal skills/abilities;
  • Well-developed decision-making and creative problem-solving abilities;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the development of individual program plans for students with challenging academic, behavioral, social-emotional and mental health needs;
  • Familiarity with EECD documents – Inclusive Education Policy, Special Education Policy, Transition Planning in Nova Scotia, Code of Conduct, Teacher Assistant Guidelines.

  • The Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education will conduct teacher interviews commencing on July 4 for the Open Vacancy hiring round.
