Job Description

This position is responsible for working within a team environment to build and maintain Blue Mountain’s summer trail network.

  • Build new trails or improve on existing trails using hand tools, such as rakes, shovels and pick-axes and gas-powered equipment, such as plate packer, weed whackers and leaf blowers
  • Cut down and remove fallen trees with chain saw
  • Relocate natural elements by hand, such as big rocks and fallen trees
  • Assist the events department with setup and teardown of on mountain events
  • Assist the events department with execution and facilitation of on mountain events, when required

  • Part Time Saturday/Sunday, Seasonal Position - MUST be available to work weekends

WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU
  • Must be physically fit and able to walk long distances and up/down steep hills
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in landscaping, construction (labour) or outdoor maintenance is required including experience using plate packers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, power tools and/or hand tools
  • Must have a valid ‘G’ Driver’s license and satisfactory drivers abstract
  • Must be comfortable with driving trucks/equipment up the steep slope of the Escarpment
  • Ministry of Labour Safe Chainsaw course certificate to operate a chain saw, an asset
  • Must be able to reason and react with quick, thoughtful judgment while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Must have an eye for detail. Must be able to identify natural plateaus, where trails can be built with efficiency etc.
  • Must be confident in a team atmosphere. Must be able to brainstorm with the team and be an independent thinker.
  • Must be able to determine if a trail is safe to be opened after a weather event.
  • Conduct regular visual inspection of all trails and features including: signage, ribbons, bridges, dead trees.
  • Inform Supervisor of unusual or unsafe situations.
  • Make calculated decisions on trail conditions to determine if they are safe for guests.
