Our people, from across the business, exemplify our principles at work and in our communities.How do you fit inThe Heartland Generation team is always looking for people that share our values and will contribute to the spirit of a forward thinking, proactive, agile, and professional team.The Mechanical Engineer is a member of a multi-discipline engineering team tasked with executing improvement projects, leading major maintenance activities, and supporting site operations and maintenance requirements.Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all aspects of project development, design, implementation, and closure in compliance with the Heartland PPMP and MOC processes. The Mechanical Engineer also provides consistent, comprehensive, and professional support to the station operations and maintenance departments in areas such as troubleshooting, root cause analysis, maintenance practices, outage planning and execution, and the development of technical standards and operating guidelines.What you’ll be doing:• Manage and/or support the execution of studies, projects, and maintenance initiatives in alignment with project management best practices and approved budgets. • Manage the work of independent consultants and contractors to ensure outcomes are consistent with contracted services and meet site requirements. • Prepare and/or review internal and external technical documents ensuring accuracy of content and identification of concerns and opportunities. • Develop, implement, and maintain strategies for the reliable operation and maintenance of site systems and equipment. • Develop and maintain contingency plans for critical equipment. • Provide technical support and recommendations on all aspects of station equipment, operations, and maintenance. • Contribute to the development of the annual engineering business plan and long-range budget forecasts.• Participate and/or lead audits and act on recommendations. • Act as the technical lead and liaison for original equipment manufacturers and service providers.• Lead pressure equipment and piping shutdowns from planning through execution to completion of records and reporting. • Lead and/or support troubleshooting efforts and develop viable solutions.• Retain current intelligence on relevant industry best practices pertaining to the static equipment, pressure vessels and piping and associated Station assets.• Act as station Integrity Coordinator by implementing and maintaining the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS).• Promote a culture of safety leadership by all. • Adhere to training requirements, contractor safety qualification and management requirements, and safe work processes. • Ensure that incidents are reported and investigated promptly, and that follow-up actions are completed in a timely manner.• Other duties may be assigned based on the needs of the station.What you must have:• Mechanical engineering degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and registered as a Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA or meet the requirements of the APEGA Inter-Provincial Mobility program. • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in power generation, or a comparable industry. • Technical knowledge of the combined cycle power generation process and equipment. • Working knowledge of power generation industry organizations, standards, and best practices. • Demonstrated understanding, and the ability to apply applicable Acts, Regulations, and Codes. • Ability to execute in a dynamic work environment. • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team. • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Desire to seek feedback to improve quality of deliverables and to develop existing and new expertise. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cloud-based business applications. • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.Where you’ll be working: This position is located at our Joffre Cogeneration Facility near Red Deer, Alberta.The Heartland Generation Experience:Heartland Generation provides an attractive Total Rewards package including competitive compensation and benefits and the ability to make a meaningful impact on a company shaping the energy future.The Heartland Generation Experience embodies:• Meaningful work and career development• Work life balance• Accessible leadership• Entrepreneurial Work Culture• Compelling Purpose• Competitive Market Based Total RewardsDiversity, Equityamp; InclusionHeartland Generation follows a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE amp;I) practice whereby all our people experience fair treatment, equal opportunities and a sense of belonging when it comes to being part of the Heartland Generation team.
