Advisor Paramedic ServicesHealth Services – Paramedic ServicesWe have a fantastic opportunity to join our Paramedic Services team of professionals as an Advisor!We want you to lead and advance policy and strategic projects within Paramedic Services by providing expert advice based on research and critical analysis.This position will also provide knowledge and understanding of federal, provincial, municipal government legislation, acts, standards and policies related to Paramedic Services.The Advisor works collaboratively with other advisors in Health Services and across the organization to provide paramedic specific recommendations, policy options, analysis regarding – paramedic legislation, initiatives, opportunities for advocacy, identifying areas to support section deliverables and written reports to the Director and the Paramedic Leadership Team.What will you do

  • Utilize research and critical analysis to provide expert advice to inform policy, strategic, and political recommendations for the Paramedic Services Division, Paramedic Services Leadership Team and Commissioner.
  • Proactively research, monitor, anticipate the development of legislation, policy and inter-governmental policies that may impact Paramedic Services and the Region, including monitoring and researching trends with other similar organizations and develops strategies for addressing identified issues.
  • Lead project management for initiatives that are large, complex and long-term in nature and ensures all phases of project delivery are performed within standards, timeframes, scope and budget requirements and that project risk is managed.
  • Prepare reports, briefings and presentations for Senior Leadership, Regional Council, Commissioner with strategic advice, policy options, background materials and briefing
  • Apply advanced knowledge of Paramedic Services and applicable legislation and /or technical knowledge including assessment of research evidence, epidemiology and the use of evidence-informed decision making.
  • Provides in-depth complex analysis to assess risks associated with strategic and operational plans to support the Division’s deliverable and strategic direction.
  • Monitor, develop, implement and advocate for strategies and policies that will have positive implications for major programs or service priorities supporting the Paramedic
  • Contribute to the development of evidence-informed program planning and evaluation, integrated operational planning, performance management and strategy.
  • Prepare complex and specialized documentation, reports (internal and council) and statistical analyses.

  • Act as a key representative for specific programs, projects and services
  • Act as project manager or facilitator for program and departmental projects
  • Act as a lead in research evidence review processes
  • Provide leadership, functional direction, guidance and mentoring to program staff at all levels
  • Assist management in the implementation of program enhancement recommendations by coordinating the flow of information and developing measures to evaluate the success of new initiatives
  • Advise Paramedic Leadership Team on all aspects of program and policy development assessing long-term impacts of decisions.
  • Provide advice, writing, briefing, critical analysis and coordinates support to the Director, Paramedic Leadership Team and Commissioner as directed.Ensures that issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in research and policy analyses
  • Leads the strategies necessary to inform and build a culture that embraces diversity and inclusion

  • Master’s degree preferably in Business, Health or Public Administration, or related degree or combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience in health services field
  • Experience with a municipal government environment with an understanding of the political and administrative culture
  • Expert knowledge and strong understanding of provincial legislation and regulations governing the Paramedic Services sector
  • Knowledge of analytical, statistical and epidemiological methods
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods including critical appraisal and appropriate use of evidence
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting and across organizational boundaries including a variety of management levels and corporate, community, provincial and federal stakeholders
  • Knowledge and experience in developing search strategies and assessing, determining relevance, critically appraising and analyzing evidence
  • Experience in informing policy development
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence and competence to establish priorities and balance multiple projects
  • Ability to react quickly and carry out work competently under pressure and with minimal guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences
  • Strong facilitation, project management, partnership/collaboration, planning, problem- solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy

  • Certified Project Management Professional designation is an asset
  • Paramedic Services experience is an asset
Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 1600 Bovaird Street worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements.
