Job Description

Take a look at what employees are working on related to our Term of Council Priorities moving us forward towards The Brampton 2040 Vision.COORDINATOR, YOUTH SUPPORT TASK FORCE (18-MONTH CONTRACT)POSTING NUMBER: 104383HIRING SALARY RANGE: $81,325.00 - $91,491.00 PER ANNUMMAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE: $101,656.00 PER ANNUMAREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:Reporting to the Manager, Community Development and Program Partnership within the Recreation Division, this role will provide leadership and direction to the programs and projects that are designed to uplift youth and provide opportunities that will help build understanding, trust, and support for the City of Brampton’s Council priorities. The Coordinator will manage and coordinate the City’s youth programs and activities during COVID-19 to achieve the objectives of keeping youth engaged and informed during the pandemic and during the recovery stage. This position is responsible for developing and leading both strategic and innovative programming, strengthen relationships external to the Corporation, and work collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders including youth groups to meet the needs of Brampton’s youth during COVID-19 and setting the foundation for the City to support youth via the youth strategy.

  • Plan agendas for monthly staff task force meetings
  • Outline objectives for the task force and an action plan
  • Oversee, manage and lead staff in completing assigned projects, duties and initiatives to advance the action items related to the City’s COVID-19 Youth Support Task Force
  • Lead, facilitate and participate on cross-divisional project teams within the City and collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders as required to implement approved projects and influence to gain buy-in on approaches to achieving the team objectives
  • Manage the continuity of the youth-related activities and facilitate communication and information sharing
  • Lead, coordinate and facilitate stakeholder meetings as required to meet project needs, disseminating relevant information and updates to various community groups.
  • Identify, manage, develop and sustain effective working relations with stakeholders to identify areas of opportunity for success for the designated task force (including Corporate, businesses, non for profit areas, etc.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support Co-Lead priorities and excellence in service delivery to the community.
  • Deliver effective communication using high quality techniques to increase awareness and engagement of youth initiatives.
  • Facilitate generative and solution-oriented discussions enabling internal and external stakeholder to work effectively together
  • Promote and create awareness of virtual programming and develop strategies to increase youth participation.
  • Share systematic processes and provide recommendations to support alignment and the successful implementation of youth engagement initiatives.
  • Identify, develop and recommend using collected data, metrics and measurements to enhance youth engagement objectives within the City
  • Take inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, prioritize requests & respond accordingly and manage public expectations
  • Understand /adhere to and enforce corporate policies and procedures, emergency procedures and health and safety standards
  • Provide ongoing reports and updates to ensure the corporation, leadership team and Council are up to date to ensure coordinated efforts with youth engagement
  • Identify factors and manage operational issues which may impact project success and provide mitigation strategies to address these factors.
  • Prepare and create correspondence, briefing and summary notes, reports and presentations, ensuring completed materials accurately, capture meeting notes and next steps, and meet established deadlines and confidentiality.
  • Provide ongoing assistance and guidance as a resource and advisory capacity to internal/external stakeholders
  • Manage communications professionally with all internal and external stakeholders, including communication with senior level government officials and their representatives
  • Identify funding for youth programs and services from various government levels to enhance what is currently funded in Brampton to support youth
STAFF SUPERVISION
  • Provides direct leadership to the Programmer, Youth Support Task Force
  • Assess and monitor performance and discipline as required to meet operational needs.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma preferably in related field (Recreation & Leisure, Kinesiology, Education, Behavioural Sciences, Economic Development, Public Policy, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology, or suitable equivalent
  • Minimum 5-7 years experience in a leadership position
  • Technology savvy, with a computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, database use and internet-based technology
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as youth groups, government departments public and private sector organizations
  • Experience working with diverse youth and experience in community engagement and outreach
  • Experience in youth programming
  • Problem solving, decision- making, and conflict resolution skills in order to make and modify operational and strategic decisions pertaining to youth
  • Commitment to the values of equity, justice, inclusion and youth leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and follow-through; ability to work well under deadlines, oversee multiple projects and prioritize work effectively
  • Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to be highly professional while also personable, approachable and outgoing and comfortable interacting with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of online platforms (e.g. Instagram, Tik Tok, Bang the Table community engagement platform) is an asset
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures related to the youth
  • Some travel may be required, but is typically performed in an office environment
