Job Description

The Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin Branch is recruiting for an innovative and knowledgeable Education Lead to coordinate and administer health promotion, education, revenue generation, and delivery of specific certificate training across the province.The Education Lead represents the Agency in a variety of community and business settings to present a broad range of information in an engaging, comprehensive, knowledgeable, and readily accessible manner to individuals, community organizations, partners, schools, businesses and other community groups. The Education Lead will oversee the Education Practice Facilitator, Contracted Educators and Program Administrative Assistant.This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) permanent position, reporting to the Director, Clinical Services, located at 601-7700 Hurontario, Brampton, Ontario. Due to Covid-19, remote work may be available.Salary band: $60,802 - $68,377 per yearCMHA Peel Dufferin offers a competitive overall compensation package which includes:Four weeks paid vacation (accrued), Eighteen Paid personal days per year (accrued), Two Flexible Days annually, HOOPP pension plan, Professional development opportunities within the agency, Excellent benefits including Heath and Dental coverage, Employee Family Assistance Program and access to a wellness fund benefit.Key Responsibilities:Fee for Service Education and Revenue Generation

  • Lead and develop workplace mental health programs, including Mental Health Works, Psychological Health and Safety in the workplace. This may also include the development and delivery of specialized programming (i.e. program developed for the Toronto Housing Authority)
  • Actively seek out revenue generating opportunities through education and training partnerships meeting annual revenue targets
  • Co-ordinate and oversee public education, fee for service contracts and certificate training
  • Present or coordinate certified educational programs such as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Mental Health First Aid, safeTALK and others to the public, through closed groups (business and/or not for profits and to staff as required)
Health Promotion and Public Education Programming
  • Develop and deliver presentations to a wide variety of audiences (staff, schools, community groups, for profit and not-for-profit businesses) from those that are very knowledgeable to those that have no mental health background
  • Develop the training calendar of workshops to be delivered each fiscal year
  • Coordinate Public Education for a variety of internal Programs eg. ACT, EPI, Opioid education
  • Act as ambassador of the organization at public information and workplace wellness health fairs, providing information on mental illness, local resources to support mental wellness and programs and services available through Canadian Mental Health Peel Dufferin
  • Participate in community development and seek opportunities to join and/or chair committees applicable to the role
  • Manage and oversee the Speakers Bureau program, Contracted Facilitators and Clinical Facilitator and training
  • In collaboration with Director create a strategic plan and annual work plan including projected targets
Administrative Support
  • Maintain records for individuals and groups who have taken certificate training
  • Create marketing and promotional materials
  • Oversee and respond to the Education email
  • Administer the requirements of training including certificates
  • Navigate and support the Learning Management System
  • Complete program required reporting
Supervisory, Leadership and Administration
  • Provide daily leadership (formal and informal supervision) to staff and volunteers– coaching, modeling, mentoring, motivating and leading staff, ensuring effective service delivery and follow-through
  • Complete staff performance appraisals and makes recommendations regarding probationary staff and individual training needs
  • Deliver and coordinate new employee program orientation and training, including initial meetings, development of orientation schedules, regular check-ins, linking new staff with mentors and other workers
  • Complete and/or oversee administrative tasks including bi-weekly scheduling, review and approval of timesheets, expense claims, vacation requests, training requests, etc.
Documentation
  • Maintenance of training and public education records
Performance Management and Professional Development
  • Participate cooperatively in the agency performance management process/system
  • Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices, current research, policies and procedures
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training
  • Actively engage and participate in supervisory process
Other Activities
  • Always serve as a role model to others by demonstrating a respectful and positive attitude towards individuals receiving support from CMHA Peel Dufferin representing the organization professionally
  • Promote and demonstrate the Vision, Mission and Values of the organization within the workplace and the broader community
  • Demonstrate a respectful and professional attitude and ensure the development and/or maintenance of a positive and supportive working relationship between departments/teams within CMHA Peel Dufferin and with external organizations, business and the broader community
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Coordinate, attend, participate in team/staff meetings, and all-staff meetings as required
  • Participate in agency quality improvement activities, e.g. accreditation projects, Information Systems Support and Privacy and Security committees, special events, etc.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities at the team/program level
  • Participate in external committees as required
  • Undertake other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications:Education, Experience
  • Relevant Post-secondary degree/diploma or equivalent in Adult Education or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience in developing and delivering adult education
  • 2 years’ experience in the development and delivery of mental health specific education
  • Supervisory experience (an asset)

  • Well-developed knowledge of the community and its resources, in order to provide assistance to community members to help navigate through mental health and social service systems
  • Demonstrated experience and strong ability in presenting and developing high quality and professional health education (workshops, seminars, public forums, speaking engagements, media presentations, etc.) to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Well-developed and demonstrated knowledge of mental health, mental illness, stress management, anti-stigma, workplace wellness, mental health system issues and health promotion principles (Knowledge of concurrent disorder, addictions, and dual diagnosis would be an asset)
  • Knowledge of or experience in the fundamentals of philanthropy
  • Experience with events coordination
Assets with regard to this position:
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training and Mental Health First Aid trainer certification
  • Knowledge of technology and the ability to troubleshoot technology issues while in the community
Requirements of the Position:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Automobile in good repair and insurance coverage as required by agency policy
  • Satisfactory police records search and vulnerable sector screening

Working Conditions:
  • Work in an office setting as well as in the community at various public events, which may include inside and outside events, across the four counties, in various types of weather and conditions. Temporary remote work due to current pandemic. Flexibility may be required to visit office following all safety precautions and measures
  • Work in contact with individuals living with serious mental illness, issues of poverty and substance use
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends
  • Some lifting may be required for event set up (up to 25 pounds)
  • Sitting for long durations, e.g., meeting with people, driving, working at desk.
  • Walking and standing for short durations.
