Job Description

Financial Analyst – Peel Housing CorporationCorporate Services - Business and Financial PlanningContract Full-Time; 24 MonthsThe Finance Department’s mandate is to enable success through financial stewardship and business partnership.As a Financial Analyst, Peel Housing Corporation, Corporate Finance, you will provide dedicated financial support to the Senior Financial Analysts and Supervisor. The Finance Department supports the operational and strategic initiatives of the Peel Housing Corporation.Within the Peel Housing Corporation’s section of Business and Financial Planning the Financial Analyst is seen as an integral part of the team. The Analyst works to develop and sustain collaborative and successful working relationships. Our team is committed to providing a client-centered approach and delivers a model that offers financial advisory services with our internal and external business partners.Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Senior Financial Analysts to support program clients on both operating and capital related matters
  • Works with clients to address matters in a timely fashion and in compliance with Financial Management By-Law, Financial Policies & Procedures, including project closeout and setups, budget reduction and redeployment
  • Review’s expenditures and conducts required monthly accounting activities (accruals, account reconciliations, journal entries etc.) to ensure the full representations of financials for each reporting period
  • On-going process improvements/enhancements to ensure data integrity and accuracy
  • Monitor’s spending and provides financial advice to ensure accounts are in a good financial position
  • Supports capital asset infrastructure reporting
  • Maintain proper documentation for project related transactions and works with external auditors for auditing responses
  • Supports Complex rental revenue analysis (RGI, Rent-Sup, AMR etc.)
  • Performs special financial reporting/analytical projects
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Relevant university degree and professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA) plus a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a fast-paced financial environment although an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
  • Previous property management / Social Housing experience would be an asset
  • Sound business acumen and critical mindset
  • Excellent computer skills (specifically MS Office-Excel); proficient in Word and PeopleSoft Financials)
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, and standards as well as municipal issues, services and processes considered an asset
  • Superior analytical and judgment abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to communicate financial information to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated passion for client service, and an ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with clients
  • An ability to work in a self-directed manner, including strong planning and organizational skills, and an attitude for initiating and taking the lead in problem-solving
  • Ability to participate effectively within a team environment where several reporting submissions are prepared in collaboration with other team members
