Job Description

Full-Time Housing Worker Job PostingJohn Howard Society Peel Halton Dufferin is a community services agency looking for a full-time Housing Worker to join our team. The successful candidate should be an effective team player with strong communication skills; great at advocating for clients; and have some level of knowledge and experience working in the housing sector.Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging in landlord recruitment and development with the goal to match housing seekers with affordable housing opportunities in the private sector.
  • Assist client in finding suitable, affordable housing in the community geared to clients’ needs.
  • Work with landlords for the purpose of educating and advising on legislated standards and landlord rights and responsibilities to support clients.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with service providers and landlords; regular contact, responding quickly to concerns, assisting/facilitating problem solving for clients.
  • Referring clients to community resources to support other needs they may have outside of housing.
Qualifications
  • Completion of post-secondary education in the social service field
  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years experience working in the housing sector preferred
  • A valid Drivers License with access to own vehicle required as this position requires you to be mobile in the community.
  • Must be flexible to work some evenings to accommodate viewings, landlord and client availability.
  • Understanding of homelessness/poverty and how these impact people’s lives
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in current approaches for adult mental health and addictions, and client centered principles
  • Experience working with individuals with addictions issues, mental health and private sector landlords.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and crisis prevention/intervention skills an asset
